1. searching for death certificates for William Elijah Levitt and Elsa Charlotte Levitt
2. angela fraser
3. I am searching for William Elijah Levitt, born in 1896 Hull, Yorkshire as I am trying to obtain a death cert for him and his wife Elsa Charlotte Levitt. I am told he and his wife (my grandparents) died in 1945 in September quarter but have no info on how they died? They lived in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire at the time possibly Analby Road, Hull or Argyll Street, Hull. I have tried the fee bmd records but nothing comes up for William Levitt.

3. I have just transcribed the same thing, Mac with a space before the remainder of the surname. There were four records for Mac Gowan and Mac Gregor I entered it exactly as it was on the scan, as per TWYS. I would expect that there may be many more which nobody has mentioned. 3. If you look at the page source for one of those list archives, you'll see that the email addresses are generated by a javascript function. They look like this: DisplayMail('tjt1 ... The string of numbers is the email address (it's longer that I've shown it above), and I assume that the javascript function converts it to a "mailto:" link. If you turn off javascript you don't see the addresses. It would have to be a fairly sophisticated email harvester to spot the email address. Obviously google's search engine can find it, though. Yahoo doesn't find any. So I think it's fairly safe. The spam mail came via the list, so it was nothing to do with people's mail addresses being visible. 3. The FreeBMD-admins list, like virtually all Rootsweb lists, has a searchable archive of past messages, at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/freebmd-admins This address is given at the foot of each individual email from the list. I hope that this is clear from the description on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/lists.html In normal circumstances the only person who can remove an email from the threaded archive is the person who sent it. There is a procedure for doing so, which I have explained to Trevor, off-list. 3. Transcribers' Knowledge Base ( TKB) 6(am) seems to apply, together with TKB 6(q) I suggest as follows. Insert two entries after the entry for Rayns,Joseph, RAYNS,JOSEPHINE M.E.,BROWN,DERBY,3A,392 S'49 #THEORY,REF see S/49 #COMMENT(2) entry shows 392 S'49 and 4234/S bracketed together RAYNS,JOSEPHINE M.E.,BROWN,DERBY,3A,4234/S Remember that the purpose of a #COMMENT line is to direct the attention of a database user to additional information about and entry. The use of the 'Spectacles' icon alongside the search result will enable a database user to see the original scanned page. It is unusual to find an entry S'49 in a September 1949 page. Usually this sort of entry points to a different year or quarter. Your syndicate co-ordinator may advise you further. 3. The usual Windows shortcuts CTRL-C for copy, CTRL-X for cut and CTRL-V for paste all work in WinBMD. Suggestions for changes or enhancements to WinBMD are normally directed to the FreeBMD-Discuss list. The type of #COMMENT that is required varies a good deal for different types and dates of scan. A good deal of advice is to be found at Transcribers' Knowledge Base (TKB) at http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html particularly in section 6 PRINCIPLES OF TRANSCRIBING DATA Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patty Keffer" <pattyk49@bellsouth.net> To: <FreeBMD-Admins@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 26, 2011 9:37 PM Subject: Possible additions to WinBMD? > Hi Ian, > > Would it be possible to have buttons to insert #COMMENT & #THEORY items so > that we’re all using the correct form for the database we are creating? > In my case, it would generally be #COMMENT(2) entry reads * or * for > Spouse’s name – with the user to insert the names in the correct case. > > If this is not deemed advantageous, could we have “copy” and “paste” > buttons or codes. 2. Patty Keffer
3. Hi Ian, Would it be possible to have buttons to insert #COMMENT & #THEORY items so that we’re all using the correct form for the database we are creating? In my case, it would generally be #COMMENT(2) entry reads * or * for Spouse’s name – with the user to insert the names in the correct case. If this is not deemed advantageous, could we have “copy” and “paste” buttons or codes. I found out how to do this, but to look it up within the program would be very helpful. One more item that I personally would find helpful would to be able to search the page for a particular item. In my case, I would like to search for “Staincross” to ensure that I have not let any 2b slip through instead of 2d! Thanks for this super program – I continue to enjoy my transcribing. Happy New Year! Patty Keffer
