A version of this page was briefly live yesterday which has been withdrawn and the previous version dated 15th March has been reinstated. An explanation was given to the FreeBMD-syndicates list. Note that files that have been corrected since the date that the report was produced will still be listed, though the links to them will now show the corrected versions. The date is shown in the fourth paragraph of the introduction, above the main list of files. It appears that some people have problems with opening large web pages like this one if using Internet Explorer. However they seem to open without problem on Google Chrome and Firefox. This particular report, aimed initially at syndicate co-ordinators, has been produced to attempt to identify transcriptions in which there are 'alternate spouse' or 'alternate mother name' entries, but which have not been transcribed according to the guidance in Transcribers' Knowledge Base (TKB) question 6(u). http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6u #COMMENT(2) Entry reads Alpha or Beta for spouse surname is the way this sort of situation should be reported in Marriage files, but some in some files transcribers have been leaving out the (2), and it is possible that some transcribers have done so on a regular basis. I have just checked the comments-suspect file list at [1]http://www.freebmd.org.uk/SuspectFilesComments.html and find that it erroneously includes all my files with correct alias comments; i.e. it has picked out all my "#COMMENT(2)" lines and included the message "Alias comment on only one entry at line". Not only that but the page is so huge that it took ages to load and crashed my browser on the first load attempt. Aren't changes tested before making them live? Mike, Thank you, thank you for this look up. It was the last scan on my list and I did not think to look up the following one. This is a good lesson for me. I believe the amendment reads 6446/S too. Elaine, Yes, it's not all that obvious. It looks like the Anthony P entry has a both short and a long line, but that might not be what was intended; however, S'83 refers to a change made in September (strictly Q3 of) 1983. There is a birth of a Barry Bradshaw, mother Jones, recorded in Blackpool & Flyde in Q3 of 1983, but no back reference. I can't find a birth of Anthony P Bradshaw, mother Jones, in Q3, of 1983. The S'83 reference appears to apply to Barry Bradshaw, so possibly the long line is indicating that both entries belong to him as well. However, you could play safe and add at #COMMENT line to both entries and let the (future) user of the data deal with the problem. Hi Gerrie, Have a look at the next scan 1956B1B0124 too. First entry on that page is: BRADSHAW, Bruce, JONES, Blackpool, 10b, 626 with a handwritten amendment which I think reads S83 6447/S Then have a look at 1983B3B0164 ( http://images.freebmd.org.uk/GUS/1983/Births/September/ANC-05/1983B3-B-0164.jpg) and you'll see the late registration entries for both Barry and Bruce Bradshaw. So I think you can be confident that the handwritten amendment you've asked about is attached to the entry for BRADSHAW, Barry and nothing attaches to BRADSHAW, Anthony P. I think the first part of the handwritten amendment probably reads 6446/S, but it's up to you to TWYS. Keith, Enter each field into a separate cell then save the file as type .csv. This applies to the header as well, so for example +INFO freebmd@myarcher.net <mailto:freebmd@myarcher.net> password SEQUENCED BIRTHS cp850 # 99 B Archer uk 37B10001.SCA 02/05/01 Y A # +S 1837 Mar UKC-20OCT2000-I-6 16/05/01 +PAGE 1 I do not understand, however, what the problem is you are encountering. I got the above by doing as you did and opening an existing transcription file as a spreadsheet. You can upload a csv file using File Management <http://www2.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/bmd-files.pl> (File Management does not care about the extension of your browse file). There is also some help in the Transcribers' Knowledge Base <http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#11>. Keith, The format for a #THEORY,REF is quarter letter (M, J, S or D) followed by slash and the year as either two or four digits. Plainly D/61a does not fit and so the warning does not go away. So the question is what does D/61a mean? If you can find the late entry you may be able to answer this question and enter the correct quarter and year. Since I no longer have access to a WINDOWS based machine, I am now using EXCEL to transcribe the data. The problem I am having is with the header details. I can copy the details from a previous file and amend accordingly, which is fine. But I was wondering is there a way you can enter the HEADER DATA into EXCEL. Then save as a CSV FILE for upload to FreeBMD. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Keith

For this particular problem I think it should actually read Options Do Not Validate Districts rather than Do Not Validate _Page Numbers. The Option description changes from Do Not Validate Districts to Do Not Validate _Page Numbers or vice versa depending on whether you have the curser in the District or Page filed when selection Option. Or at least the above occurs in my version of WinBMD (6.8) which is still undergoing testing. I had no need to check out when Sandwell came into being as a District when answering the original query.. However it did exist in March 1975 when it had volume code 33. The record: DEAN, David, WHITE, Sandwell,33, M'75 means it was a later entry which was first registered in the March quarter of year 1975. Therefore my workaround to being able to transcribe the volume code as 33 was quite valid and is TWYS. It is unclear as to which of the previous responses you own response is referring. I can't quite see the relevance of the District Alias liaison team being involved in picking up and sorting any problem caused by not transcribing the volume code of 33 for District Sandwell. The record itself is a late entry which appear in the March quarter of year 1975 (i.e derived from M'75). Therefore the correct approach to the original query is to TWYS, which means you type 33 for the Volume Code. I gave a workaround to the problem if WinBMD would not accept 33 for the Volume Code. It doesn't have to be Sandwell, (could be Birmingham) but that would make the manual edit a little easier.
