    3. It would appear that cause of this problem was that the saved search was created just at the very instant when a new update to the database came online. The system has now been changed to cater for this situation. Barrie -----Original Message----- From: Archer Barrie Sent: 25 March 2005 12:34 To: FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: 691 deleted records And as far as I can tell that response from the system will be a correct representation of the situation. Without further information I cannot say anything else. 1. Handwritten Entry
    2. On the page I am transcribing is a late handwritten entry at the bottom of the column, but the district is written as W/Chapel 1a. The district column of WinBMD will not allow me to enter the slash. As the character is clearly identifiable I am unsure what symbol to use instead. Anne Grainger

    1. Problem uploading - Empty File?
    2. Shirley Saunders
    3. Hi, I'm trying to upload a 28k file that I've transcribed containing 2 consecutive pages. I went to the BMD File Management page, "Upload file" and selected the file using 'browse'. Strangely enough, when I hit 'send' I get the error message 'Empty File'. The help associated with that message tells me that the file either doesn't exist or is empty. It's definitely not either. Is there a system problem or am I just having a bad upload day? (BTW I didn't have this problem yesterday and I'm uploading at 9:57pm PST, which would be about 6am UK Time Friday morning 25 Mar) Thanks Shirley Scan2

    3. You type Thos. The definitive information is at: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/beginhelp.shtml scroll down to "Keep things simple". First paragraph quotes" "Volunteers are asked to copy exactly what is on the original page. This is most important, transcribers must not try and correct the original indexes as this may inadvertently cause new errors. There is a page giving a few transcribing guidelines which can be accessed by clicking here." Or check out http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/vol_faq.html#6b ? 3. The error concerning the display of saved searches has now been corrected. However, the report on the number of deleted records (e.g. 691) appears to be functioning correctly, it being only the display of the records that was incorrect. As it happens the problem was unconnected with either the recent update or the enhancement work. Barrie

    3. I too ran a check on some of my own saved searches. A Deaths file was said to have 11 records deleted while the 'Show All' facility showed that all entries after 1846 were marked as deleted. For Marriages it was all entries after 1898 and for Births all entries after 1867. Presumably there was a glitch with the update?
