Hi; I'm with Scan2 [3598] and have d/l 1869d4-344. The page is very black, especially at the top and I can't read the surname. The entire page is the same surname for male, female, and unknown, in 3 short columns. My other 2 pages are unconnected so can't get a clue from them, nor can I look for the preceding page 343 without an initial. Can someone help me figure out the surname, please? A solution that we have used is to transcribe it as ' W.Chapel,1c ' , upload the file and then edit it on-line in your File Management web page to ' W/Chapel,1c '. Someone else may know of a better solution of course. Hi The batch I am currently transcribing has a handwritten correction, perfectly clear but with the district name given as W/Chapel 1c. WinBMD won't let me enter the oblique stroke. Any ideas? Thanks Veronica Elleson
I received this email from one of my transcribers and I suggested that she do a repair or try reinstalling WinBMD. Neither of these solutions have worked "Have had a problem saving the latest transcription I am doing. When I press F3 a window appears with the following: Error Number 522 Unable to Open WinBMD Temp for Writing (Have you got it open?) -report. When I close this window I lose everything I have transcribed" How do we overcome this please Debbie
Under some odd circumstances the file (WinBMDTemp, which is in the WinBMD folder) seems to become set to Read-Only. Right-click on it, select Properties" and unset the read-only box on the General tab. I should have made my response more specific. The point I was making related to your Dear All .... please "Send to Derek (i.e. Hopkins)". Sending files to Derek only applies to Scan2 volunteers and not to other Syndicates (with the possible exception of those Syndicate who also have a Co-ordinator named Derek). The suggestion about checking header details is quite valid. It is a heads up to ALL transcribers check a page when you have finished it including the header to see you have not done something stupid. WinBMD and VerifyBMD do a good job of the data being accurate but in filling in the header has bad results for anything up to 720 odd entries in the FreeBMD database just for a slip of one character in the year or quarter. So "Heads Up" Take a few seconds to make sure the header is correct before you send a page in . While this case may be Scan2 specific, I am sure this problem is not exclusive to Scan2. G - always the letter is the first letter of the first surname on the page. Simply put the first H name on the next line after the last G name. Probably only about 365 names instead of 375 because of the space for the big H. Hi In the current batch I am transcribing (Births Dec 1903) I have the page that starts with "G" names and finishes with "H" names - hence a large letter H by itself in a space, halfway down the third column!
