I think you do the same error reporting on the first one of the batch, and put a note in it to say "also applies to next 112 entries" or something similar. It looks as though one entry was missed out and then the transcriber put the district, volume and page details for each entry onto the entry following it, if you see what I mean, so that each entry has the district, volume and page belonging to the previous entry. Basically this page must have missed out on a BMD verify but I can't report each entry individually because it would take ages and also I wouldn't be able to report the missing line. No, not unless you tell us the names of the files and what listing you requested. I've been trying to get into "Manage your files" all the afternoon in order to upload some transcriptions. The link keeps timing out - is there a server problem at the moment? Christopher Richards
After carrying out a routine check of the files uploaded by my syndicate I have found that some files are not shown on the report. Some of these files date back to January 2005 whilst others are dated the first week in May 2005. Both sets of files are shown within the Subscribers listing on SHOW FILES. Can somebody please explain why these files are not showing up on the upload listing please. Thank-You Keith

You're obviously doing the same batch as me (just done page 187 which has *two* additions like yours) <grin>. Insert the handwritten line between the typed entries for 'Patience Grieve T' and 'Patrick' (where the handwritten '1' is located) and leave it out when you get to the bottom of the page. You should find that everything will then be in sequence and WinBMD won't complain. See item 6g in the Transcribers Knowledge Base at: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/vol_faq.html Incidentally, WinBMD still saves the file ok and will upload it even if it does display that warning. - I did a page where a typed entry was out of sequence the other day, but didn't correct it because of the 'enter what you see on the page' rule 6x in the Knowledgebase. > I am transcribing 1906 deaths, Q4, page 186 (KEN). I am transcribing 1906 deaths, Q4, page 186 (KEN). At the bottom of column 2 is an out-of-sequence, hand-written entry which appears to be a 'correction' of an entry earlier in the column and gives an alternative first forename. I have inserted this record at its proper alphabetical position to avoid getting an out-of-sequence warning when I save the file at intermediate stages before completing the page. I am using WinBMD. Should I put the record back in the same position as on the scan before downloading to FreeBMD? Graham
I am a fairly new transcriber to FreeBMD, so I hope this is not a rather obvious question. I have been following the rules for transcribing uncertain characters (underscores, astericks etc) and had assumed that this would be reflected in search results. For instance, a search for 'Henry Bloggs' would also find 'Hen* Bloggs' and '_enry Bloggs'. However, this does not seem to be the case. Is this so, and if so, should the search engine be changed? Hi All I have a new transcriber who has been unable to install WinBMD and so is using SpeedBMD. He has see WinBMD in action and wants to use it. Below is the email he sent me: As I suspected Winbmd will not install. I downloaded it from freebmd yet again, Version 4.4.0.0. It says it is initializing the wise installation wizard and then up comes a box which says."Checking for previously loaded components" This turns into not responding and I have to ctrl/alt/delete. I get the same result time after time. I'm running xp home here. Any information would be appreciated from any other users. Help please Debbie Valentine NZ
Hi Have just cleared a virus-induced problem from my hard-disk Tried to start WinBDM, but get the following error message: "Runtime error '429' ActiveX component can't create object." Can't start WinBMD. Any suggestions for a solution? Or should I just reinstall WinBDM? Barbara -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. I have a transcriber who is having difficulty uploading file via WinBMD. Everytime he uploads a file he is informed that "An error occurred connecting to FreeBMD site. Error Number 10061. Connection is forcefully rejected." Need help in resolving this matter as file backlog is starting to build up. Thank-You Keith
Keith, The most likely explanation is that they have a firewall or router which is preventing WinBMD connecting. If they don't know how to configure it to allow access then they can only upload manually. OK I'm just new at this, and I've been slowed down even more by a computer crash, but I open the scan in Micrografx (or the Kodak imager in Win 98) and put it at the top of the screen, pulling the bottom of the box up to about half way. Then open SpeedBMD at the bottom of the screen and transcribe directly from one to the other, with the records together it is easy to check over each line after you finish it. I am transcribing marriages for 1855 and have a problem. The volume number on one of the entries is written down as 'dd' this is obviously a mistake but I am assuming the type what you see rule applies. WinBMD won't let me proceed to the page number, I keep getting the following message "Leading characters in Volume number must be numbers" Any advice will be appreciated. Barbara
In 1885 Marriages, March Quarter, on page 27, we find the following noble gent, spread down three lines of the first column: BUCKINGHAM & CHANDOS, Richard Plantagenet C. T. N. B. C. G. (Duke of) WinBMD won't allow one to input the 'ampersand' sign, so how the *%$#~@ is a transcriber to follow the TWYS rule? Richard Oliver Madrid, Spain r.oliver@arrakis.es
