From FreeBMD FAQs: 13 (i) Can I upload records to FreeBMD using Scans accessed from 1837online? No! When individuals sign up to 1837online they agree to terms and conditions which prohibit such use of scans downloaded from 1837online. In consequence, in order to protect both FreeBMD and indivduals from potential legal action, FreeBMD will not accept any transcriptions created from this source. FreeBMD take their responsibility seriously and if we believe that transcriptions uploaded to FreeBMD come from 1837online scans they will be removed. This way we are able to show that we are taking real steps to prevent illegal use of 1837online's scans. ----------- Christopher Richards <cmr1chards@blueyonder.co.uk> wrote: I thought I had understood that there was an agreement with 1837online that prevented FreeBMD using their images for our transcriptions. Thank you to everyone for your imput into my query it is appreciated. Lucille Scan2
Greetings. You need to adjust your mail filters to work on the <Sender> line, not the <subject> line. Works well for me! Especially as I belong to more than one FreeBMD list - Admins, Discuss and Syndicates - and by <sender> I can have 3 different folders for these 3 lists. I have that problem too - it happened after I changed from 'Digest' to 'List' format. With Digest I got them all in one email with FreeBMD ... in the subject line - now they all come separately with the topic in the line. If I am unsure of the sender, I tend to r)click and check properties, which gives the source as FreeBMD. ----- Original Message ----- From: L Hambling To: FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, June 03, 2005 10:25 PM Subject: SUBJECT LINE My e-mails from the list used to have FreeBMD-Admins in the subject line, now they haven't, this is playing havoc with my e-mail sorting system, has anything changed at their end, or have I accidently clicked something I shouldn't? Can't be much help I'm afraid, but for what it's worth WinBMD (4.4.0) installed without problem and is running fine here under XP Home (SP2). > *From:* "Debbie Valentine" <debs.valentine@gmail.com> > *To:* FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com > > This is the email of 12th May. > Unfortunately none of the replies helped. > The transcriber is to date still using SpeedBMD > > Debbie Valentine > > -----Original Message----- > From: Debbie Valentine [mailto:debs.valentine@gmail.com] > Sent: Friday, 13 May 2005 6:35 a.m. > To: FreeBMD > Subject: Unable to install WinBMD > > > Hi All > I have a new transcriber who has been unable to install WinBMD and so is > using SpeedBMD. > He has see WinBMD in action and wants to use it. I had been searching for the birth of Elizabeth Ashton and found a likely entry in March 1845 - District Wigan. However, this entry and entries either side have no volume or page number. I have checked the scan and yes - it is illegible I have then checked 1837online and find I can read the scan - can I submit these as corrections as I am not completely sure of the source? Thanks, Viv

The June Quarter of 1887 Deaths is not shown as nearly completely transcribed. It is shown as 90% transcribed. the nature of the transcription work that we undertake means that if one Joseph Taylor has not been transcribed for an incomplete quarter, it is highly likely that all the others will not have been transcribed either (all the Joseph Taylors in a quarter will either be on a single page or on two adjacent pages) -- Dave Mayall ---------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://www.ukonline.net
Hello Hugh The purpose of the feedback at this stage is simply to establish whether the entry that you searched for is really on the page which you are led to by the 'spectacles' link, not which link is clearer. You need to select one of the two links to two different images that are found for your entry and then view the image before you can use the 'confirm' facility. After you have used the confirm facility and closed that window you have to go back to the 'spectacles' icon to see the other image. I have looked at both images of your entry and submitted to confirm that the entry is on both. (more detailed answer given off-list) Jeff
Hi, to report this sort of problem, that affects multiple entries on a page, all you need to do is 1) Submit a single correction against one of the entries affected. 2) Within the "Source" field on the corrections form, include text such as This page has an alignment problem between the names and districts. This error therefore affects multiple entries. This will prompt me to investigate the surrounding entries. I have investigated this particular page, but unfortunately the transcriber concerned does not accept corrections requests. I will therefore arrange to upload correct versions of the affected entries before the start of the next Database update. Kevin S. David - I attempted to correct the scanned marriage image reference for William AYNSLEY, 1837, 4th quarter, Newcastle on Tyne. Despite following the instructions, viewing both possible images, and deciding which was the clearer, when I swapped to the instructions page and hit the CONFIRM button I simply get a Javascript message telling me i need to view an image before submitting feedback. Not a lot of use! For reference, the best image is 1837M4-A-0015 - but it would be nice if the facility worked properly! regards Hugh Ainsley

Hi all The web site that BMDVerify is downloaded from will be temporarily off-air overnight tomorrow (Thurs May 19th) from about 8:30pm (BST) while the server is moved from Nottingham to Manchester. Assuming it gets there and works when its switched on again, should be back by Friday 9am (BST) at the latest. David Lang
