I have only heard about this because of transcribing for FreeBMD how many people do not know that our heritage is being exported to India. -----Original Message----- From: FreeBMD-Admins-D-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:FreeBMD-Admins-D-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: 23 June 2005 10:03 To: FreeBMD-Admins-D@rootsweb.com Subject: FreeBMD-Admins-D Digest V05 #118

As in all things, detail is everything. - What discrepancies page? I have a pretty good knowledge of how the site works, but I don't know what page you are talking about. - Which page did you transcribe? It's very difficult to analyse a problem in an abstract fashion. Details to allow us to look at the soecific example are the key. -- Dave Mayall ---------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://www.ukonline.net

    3. There is no difference between semi-colon and comma. In fact if you type a semi-colon, it is changed to a comma when the line is stored. We will clarify the instructions. I'm doing 1853 deaths & some of the scans require a #COMMENT so I do the + page , after all I can read is transcribed. Is this the correct ?? 3. I think that you will find that this information is on an external link which ends up at http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/dev.htm#stth not the FreeBMD site itself. You will see an email address at the foot of that page for the 'maintainer' of that GENUKI web page. I suggest that you get in touch with that person, to whom I am copying this email. Where registers for different parishes and sub-districts have been divided up between different modern Register Offices, unless the researcher knows with some certainty where the event occurred, it seems sensible that they should apply to the ONS, for which http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/research/investigatingyourfamilytree/index.asp is a good starting point. 1. Re: Can't transcribe page!
    2. Jeff Coleman
    3. Hi Tony Tell them to transcribe it as page 1091 with +PAGE 1092 and +PAGE,1093 at mid-point and end. When it is finished and verified either get them to send it to you to amend it in a text-editing package, or tell them to do it themselves, or forward it to me to edit. At that point you simply need to alter filename from 1861M3B1091.BMD to 1861M3B0091A.BMD +PAGE,1091 to +PAGE,0091A +PAGE,1092 to +PAGE,0092A +PAGE,1093 to +PAGE,0093A and save it as 1861M3B0091A.BMD You will not then be able to open it with WinBMD , but it can be uploaded using the route in 'File Management' Editpad lite, a free download, has some advantages over notepad for editing BMD files, but notepad can be used with care. If you need more detail or help, contact me off line Jeff ( whose syndicate has been working on 1861M2, which also has this sort of odd page numbering occasionally) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Meighan" <Horler@one-name.org> To: <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 13, 2005 5:55 AM Subject: Can't transcribe page! > Monday, June 13, 2005, 2:53:50 PM > > Originaly sent to SYNDICATE List > > Sunday, June 12, 2005, 10:44:44 PM > > Hi, > > One of my members has tried to transcribe the following page, but is > unable to > set it up in WinBMD! > > 1861M3-B-0091a.jpg > > Advice please! > > > -- > Regards, > > Tony > > > > > > > > > ==== FreeBMD-Admins Mailing List ==== > Subscribe/Unsubscribe instructions and Archives > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/FreeUK/FreeBMD-Admins.html > > ============================== > Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree. 3. Hi Tony I think this problem is being addressed in the new version of WinBMD. As an interim measure you need to name the file something else. What you choose depends on if the transcriber also transcribed 0091 scan. If the transcriber has already done 0091 then this filename cannot be used. After the file is transcribed then it needs to be altered either before manual upload or after auto upload in File Management. You need to alter File Name The header internal file name +PAGE number (the first one) I think that is everything. good luck Bob Phillips ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Meighan" <Horler@one-name.org> To: <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 13, 2005 5:41 PM Subject: Please Help!! > Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 2:36:22 AM > > > Please can someone assist one of my members, he has tried to transcribe the > following page, but is unable to get WinBMD to accept it! > > 1861M3-B-0091a.jpg > > As there already is a page 0091, the lower case A appears to be the problem ! > > Any advice forthcoming?? > > -- > Regards, > > Tony > > > ==== FreeBMD-Admins Mailing List ==== > Want to help FreeBMD? > Go to http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/Signup.html to find out how. > > ============================== > Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the > areas they lived. 1. Pasting accented names from File Management?
    2. Shirley Saunders
    3. Hi, I was cutting and pasting one of my old uploaded files from the File Management section for editing. I'm using a Mac, MacBMD, OS X, Internet Explorer. The file I was working on originally had an accent over one of the names which I had entered. However looking at the file in the File Management, and also, therefore, the letters that I just cut and pasted, the accented name no longer reads as before it's now: Marshall,Geraldine AimZe,Pancras,1b,3 Which on my computer looks like AimZ (strange accent) e - originally it was Aimee, with a cute little accent over the first e, as I'm sure it reads searching on FreeBMD. Is there anyway to do the cut and paste without introducing these errors - or will FreeBMD cope with that as the accented e without my intervening? Many thanks Shirley Scan2

    1. Incorrect Information on the Web Site
    2. Helen Cornall
    3. Dear Sir/Madam My name is Helen Cornall, I work in the records office at Exeter Register Office. The other night I was looking at the freebmd site and I noticed that on your listing, you are informing people that the St. Thomas Registers are all in the Exeter District. I'm afraid this information is incorrect, in 1998 the St. Thomas registers were spit between three offices, Teignbridge, Exeter and East Devon. Would it please be possible to amend your information because at present any one using your site sends all their requests for St. Thomas to me in Exeter even if they are not here. Yours Helen Cornall Records Room, Register Office, 1 Lower Summerlands, Heavitree Road, Exeter, EX1 2LL 01392 686263
