I have to admit that I posted here with a query when I first started, rather than looking in the Transcribers knowledgebase where the question had already been answered! I assume you eventually managed to upload the file ok? Regards John K.Eason (freeBMD@john-eason.co.uk)
Peter Yes you can, you need to go into the folder called "Files" which was created when you first downloaded WinBMD, it will be in the WinBMD folder wherever that is saved on your computer. In it you will find several text files, the ones you are interested in are called WinBMD_Name2 and WinBMD_Supp_Districts. Copy these to something portable like a floppy disk, then once you have installed WinBMD on the new computer, go into the equivalent "Files" folder which will have been created and replace the text files which have the same names. It worked for me anyway! If you use Windows Explorer to find the WinBMD folder, there is a folder within it called Files. In there you will see two files with more recent 'Date Modified' than the rest, WinBMD_Name2.txt and WinBMD_Supp_Districts.txt These are the ones that you need to keep safe on a floppy and save into the equivalent folder when you re-install WinBMD on a new computer. Hi Peter, Assuming you originally installed WinBMD using the default path, then you will have a file on your old computer called C:\Program Files\WinBMD\Files\WinBMD_Supp_Districts.txt You just need to copy this file into the same directory on your new computer, again assuming that you install using the default directories Hope that helps Kevin. > -----Original Message----- > From: Peter Carr [mailto:peter@biscuitware.co.uk] > Sent: 03 August 2005 20:18 > To: FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: New computer > > > I am shortly changing my computer which will mean downloading > WinBMD again. > Is it possibly to carry over all the additions I have made to the District > and Names Pick lists? > > > > Best Wishes > > Peter > > Scan2 (216) > > > > > > ==== FreeBMD-Admins Mailing List ==== > Subscribe/Unsubscribe instructions and Archives > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/FreeUK/FreeBMD-Admins.html > > ============================== > Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree. If there is a small raised letter and a symbol below it clearly indicating an abbreviation, it seems sensible to reproduce that symbol as a full stop, the modern way of showing an abbreviation. This is often seen in district names with St. for Saint or Mt. for Market, but also on occasion with forenames. St. Saml. Wm. why not Josh. ? Hi Bronny, Error 11004 is normally a problem with your internet connection or DNS resolution. I would suggest that you leave it a couple of hours and try again. Dear Sir/Madam, I am currently researching the information world of genealogists. The FreeBMD project offers a major source of valuable information to many genealogists. I was wondering if it might be possible to interview one or more of the organizers of the FreeBMD project about their work? There are a batch of misnamed scans in 1841/Births/September/UKD-02/M-Z, at present they are shown as: 1841B3-V-1161.tif 1841B3-V-1162.tif 1841B3-V-1163.tif 1841B3-V-1164.tif 1841B3-V-1165.tif 1841B3-V-1166.tif 1841B3-V-1167.tif 1841B3-V-1168.tif 1841B3-V-1169.tif 1841B3-VW-1170-blank.tif 1841B3-VW-1171-blank.tif 1841B3-W-1172-front.tif 1841B3-W-1173.tif In fact 1841B3-V-1162.tif to 1841B3-V-1169.tif inclusive are blanks, 1841B3-VW-1170-blank.tif, 1841B3-VW-1171-blank.tif and 1841B3-W-1172-front.tif are correctly named Please could you let me know when the names have been corrected Thank you John
I have searched the database for a definitive answer but cannot find it. On the handwritten page I'm transcribing at present there are 2 entries, bracketed together, a few lines below their correct position. There is an x mark higher in the column where they should be. The question is do I leave them in-situ or move them to their correct position as I would if they were at the bottom of the page, I favour the latter. Thanks for any help Anne
There are a number of possible reasons but without the details of the entries it is impossible to guess.
