    1. MacBMD and spouses for marriages
    2. Shirley Saunders
    3. Hi, Regarding the recent conversation about using MacBMD for transcribing the marriage pages with spouse last name, I've found out that there's been an update to the software which presents a place for the Spouse last name. It's version 1.9.1, and runs on OS X (I haven't checked the classic version for pre-OSX people). It also copes with the mother's maiden name requirement on the later birth files. Best wishes Shirley Scan2, #1440 The following from Ben Hines (the author) details the download URL and the what's new: At 6:03 PM -0700 25/9/05, Ben Hines wrote: >Please test out my new version 1.9.1 and let me know if you >encounter any problems.. 2. Audrey Clarke
    3. Hi there, I know this question was asked a little while ago, but I cannot find the email containing the answer. I have also searched the Transcribers Help and must be looking in the wrong place because I cannot find the answer there either. I have an entry with the Spouses name as above i.e. Jones or Smith The email I cannot find explained what to do but I have forgotten what it was. Could some kind person please point me in the right direction? Many thanks Audrey

    3. If you enter Marriages 1913 in WinBMD (version I have is 4.4.0 - find version in Help About) then when you open your grid there is a column for Spouse. See recent discussion in list archives about cases where the spouse has two names Smith or Jones etc. Hope this helps Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kate McCain" <kate.mccain@cis.drexel.edu> To: <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 24, 2005 11:13 PM Subject: name of spouse in 1913 marriage records > Having survived the challenges of 1846 handwriting, I now find myself in > 1913 marriages, with a column for the spouse's name. 2. Kate McCain
    3. Having survived the challenges of 1846 handwriting, I now find myself in 1913 marriages, with a column for the spouse's name. Entry # 13(g) in the Knowledge Base alludes to this -- noting the "extra field" but not really telling us what to do with it. The entry suggests that there may be an upgrade of the data entry software to accommodate this field (not a middle name, after all) "if FreeBMD can accept it" but MacBMD, at least, lacks this feature. I know I saw something on this recently on the list, but I don't know how to access the listserv archives. Would a kind soul tell me the current practice? I am all in favor of TWYS but I suspect that a spouse's name is not the same thing as a title. On a related subject, in 1913 they were not leaving spaces between abbrieviations and main names of districts -- S.Moulton instead of S. Moulton. Since I know that characters have their own ascii codes, I assume that we TWYS and that there is a mapping function somewhere down the line where S.Moulton and S. Moulton will be normalized. Thanks in advance, Kate McCain

    3. Wanda Do you mean that you downloaded two separate scans of the indexes but then transcribed them as one file. If so, I made some changes in April this year for this situation, version 2.1.10. If you are on an earlier version of BMDVerify, you should get the latest (now 2.1.12). Note that when you opt for "double page 6 columns", this means that the scan you downloaded contains a double page with 6 columns. You should opt for what is in the scan you are verifying against, not how many scans you have transcribed into the same file. 3. Charles, Yes, that's what I did. I downloaded v.2.1.12 & changed to 3 columns. 2. Stephen Rowe
    3. When attempting to report a correction to an entry (incorrect page number as advised by GRO) - the page asks for the various details, a description of the problem, your email address and then presents, at the bottom, a Submit button. Clicking that button, however, brings you back to the same page with an Error dialogues Error You must read the instructions below and tick the box to confirm you have complied with them The only problem is - there is NO box that can be ticked to say you have read the instructions - which means, of course, you cannot submit a correction. 3. Sondra There's nothing wrong with our mailing system. You may have misunderstood the signing up process: 1. Joining FreeBMD and hence registering for a SubmitterID and 2. Subscribing to our mailing lists. These are entirely separate actions. You have joined and obtained your SubmitterID. You must also have subscribed to our FreeBMD Admins mailing list and hence the reason why you are receiving emails from "the system". This mailing list is intended for our volunteers who wish to ask questions about transcribing activities, therefore all subscribers to the list receive copies of all emails to the list.
