    3. Hi Jean, The instructions state When completing the source field, please just tell us, in as few words as possible, where you found the information. Lengthy explanations, or worse still spirited advocacy supporting the correction are unhelpful. 3. Hello Brian, If you look in WinBMD Help and from the index select "Districts", it tells you to try F*:XIII which you can see from the scan. WinBMD suggests 3 districts. If you can't match the district to any of these, then by all means request some help. But it is your transcription, and you should be putting what you can see, not what others on the list see. Having said that, sometimes the minute somebody says "Oh it's Forehoe", we can see it is glaringly obvious and wonder why we couldn't see it before. It is always worth comparing the rest of the scan with any doubtful characters - it very often helps us learn to read that particular scribe's handwriting. 3. With regard to BMDVerify, when I tried to do the verification of the elusive 1883M30757 file, the menu for selecting extra columns, 1,2,3,4,5, the buttons were INACTIVE - could not click on them. Have emailed Ian Brooke re the problem with files. Looks like I may have to redo the file. Oh well, it happens. Thanks for all the suggestions. Louise

    3. I dont know where your volunteers live but many adult learning institutions run computer classes specifically for the older person, perhaps they might like to try them. Obviously they have computers and this would help them in all tasks, not just FreeBMD. 3. Thanks, That appeared to have worked, in that I didn't get any error message when I uploaded from WinBMD, but, when I checked the uploaded file in FreeBMD, it hadn't been replaced. I assume it was rejected for the same reason. 1. saving transcriptions
    2. Louise & Tim Atherton
    3. Further to my previous email, I just wanted to ask about the WinBMD program re saving. Yesterday I opened up 1883M3-J0757 to find that only the 1st part of the page was saved, so I went on to finish the following 2 columns, entered +PAGE,0758 at the end, saved batch & exited. When I went to do a Verify today, only the first part was visible again, the other 2 columns had disappeared again! I understand that 1883M3-J0756 had unfortunately been overwritten with info from 0757, but exactly the same thing with 0756, 1st column there, the other 2 not. Also the header on the top left hand corner is incorrect & can't be altered. Any advice on this one please? Thanks Louise
