    3. Somebody posed a similar query to me off list earlier today. It was also stated that Ian always responded within a couple of days to queries but apparently Ian had mentioned to this individual he was having "trouble " with his PC. Searching through my emails the last posting I have from Ian was on 21 November 2005 although he carried out some syndicate maintenance on 25 November. Ian is a subscriber to this Admin list so assuming his PC and connection service are both in working order he should pick up this "where are you note". If anyone has had more up to date communication with Ian could they please let me know off list? The registers are grouped according to the volume and each volume contains a number of districts. It is possible, therefore, that entries from different districts (all within the same volume) can appear on the same page although, of course, pairs of entries should have the same district. > note the districts are in italics although "Samford" appears > to be a legitimate spelling. If you click on "Samford" it says: "The page number is not within the range expected for the district. Note that there a number of possible reasons for this, including an error in the district, the page, the volume, the date or the type of entry." In the first case the reason is a wrong page and in the second the reason is a wrong date. > I then clicked the "spectacles" for the 2nd entry and > returned page 334 for Sep 1896 instead of 1369 > I could not get a return for the "spectacles" in the first entry. There are (confusingly) two types of "page", one is the page in the original register (page 1369 in volume 4a) and the other is the page of the index (334), which is what the scan is of. In the Sept 1986 entry you will not find the entry on page 334 because the transcription accidently put the entry in September rather than June. This has already been corrected which is why there is now a entry for the same name in the results for June 1896. The incorrect entry (Sep 1986) has now been deleted and this will be reflected in the results at the next update. There does not now appear to be a problem with viewing the scan of the first entry. However, as Allan has observed the page number should probably be 1041. If you do a search for Marriages, June 1884, volume=4a, page=1041 you will get three entries which are probably the ones that go with the Weeding entry.

    3. I haven't checked through all the details or searches. Regarding "Weeding Alice Mary Samford 4a page 1011 Marriage June 1884". I think page 1011 is an incorrect transcription of the actual scan entry it should read 1041, scan 1884M2-W-0274.tif refers. The "4" is somewhat indistinct on the scan. I assume the reason "Samford" district is in italics in particular for the search entry above is that the page number doesn't accord with the page number range for that district rather than the district itself being an invalid spelling. 3. Hi *** Latest Information *** The network problems on our site were fixed earlier today which will mean new volunteer registrations being accepted by the system and I can vouch that various reports such as Upload complete in double quick time. Please keep an eye on the message on the FreeBMD Homepage and the File Management Page to find out the latest information on database update. Regards Allan Raymond ----- Original Message ----- From: "Allan Raymond" <allan_raymond@btinternet.com> To: <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 03 December 2005 22:03 Subject: FreeBMD - Various Difficulties Hi *** Latest Information *** As reported on the FreeBMD Homepage and the File Management Page: "Update to the FreeBMD database commenced some weeks ago but is currently stalled whilst some network problems are sorted out." Difficulties are now being encountered in File Management, Show File, Upload Reports and Registration. File Management problems will prevent files being uploaded to FreeBMD or amendment to existing files on FreeBMD. Registration problems will prevent new volunteers registering on FreeBMD Show File and Upload reports are used mainly by Co-ordinators in the administration of their Syndicate. As we are unable to provide a 24/7 technical backup service, it may be a couple of hours before a technical answer can be given as to the cause of the current problems. In the meanwhile: Please be patient, and refrain from e-mailing to ask for progress as this only serves to deflect from finding a solution to the problem. We'll try and keep everyone informed on progress via a message on the FreeBMD Homepage and the File Management Page. Allan Raymond FreeBMD Co-ordinator of Syndicates
