    3. already tried that, set my options so that no mail was to be filtered but still lost hundreds. I'm on a 29 day free trial at usermail.com and so far have had no problems whatsoever. Still using ntl as my ISP but have an pop and smtp account at usermail - cost just $19.95 a year and well worth it Lynda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Hattam" <mark@dxradio.demon.co.uk> To: <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 01 January 2006 13:39 Subject: Re: Problems with NTL email addresses > NTlWorld's website says that they delete what they think is spam > incoming to user accounts. > > But this page > > http://www.ntlworld.com/helpsupport/spam/options.php > > appears to inform subscribers how to change the default spam > settings. 3. Further to my message today, I too was fobbed off, but by BT.,and was directed by them to a Spam Filter list. On there I found a number of messages from my legitimate contacts and was able to retrieve them. However, I am aware of many more missing incoming and outgoing emails. I too am informed by my contacts that some of their messages to me are being returned to them, undelivered. I am using Outlook Express. Like you, this all goes straight over my head - I just want to use a reliable email service! The only problem that I know of, but there may well be others, was receiving mail from Virgin. When I contacted NTL they fobbed me off with spam filtering, but this was obviously not the explanation as some mail was being returned undelivered. This is a bit over my head but the most likely explanation I found was that some mail servers are being blacklisted for excessive distribution of spam and it then becomes a hit and miss affair of a 'clear' server being used each time it is re-issued. It would also tend to overload that system by putting the extra burden on the servers. I am uncertain as to whether or not some of my incoming and outgoing emails are getting through. Does anyone else on BT., have the same doubts? Maybe it is a common email problem, regardless of one's ISP?? FYI., I quote an entry from Pat Savage dated 10 Dec 05 as follows: "If anyone has had trouble getting me on my btopenworld email address. But this page http://www.ntlworld.com/helpsupport/spam/options.php appears to inform subscribers how to change the default spam settings. 3. You need to start using firefox and then subscribe to google email. Yes, they have a spam filter but it puts what it thinks is spam into a box marked (very considerately) "spam" !! If it is not, you have the choice to mark it as "not spam" and from then on it will go into your regular mail. In my experience google has never repeated an error. If you are interested email me anne.gardener@gmail.com because I have 100 invitations to gmail to give away. Anne. P.S. It will work with IE but firefox also gets rid of all of those awful flashing adverts. ----- Original Message ----- From: "BRUCE CHANTER" <bruce.chanter@btinternet.com> To: <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 01, 2006 9:37 AM Subject: Re: Problems with NTL email addresses > Further to my message today, I too was fobbed off, but by BT.,and was > directed by them to a Spam Filter list.
