    3. Can we please put a stop to this, I for one am getting fed up with ISP talk. Please take it to another forum somewhere. As for bitching, that's not what this list is for surely. 3. Hi I have found this site very interesting - thank you for the link. My own (married) surname came in 76th! I also got some rankings of 'colour' surnames, eg Brown, Black, Green, etc. Then I did some place names, eg London, Kent, Surrey, Essex, etc. The list could be endless, but quite fun, especially if you like statistics. Thanks again. 1. [Admin] NTL email is not pertinent to the topic matter of the list
    2. Andrew Billinghurst
    3. Hi, The discussion of NTL's email performance, preferred browsers, mail software, etc. are off-topic for this mailing list. Those transcribing in general will find this both irrelevant and possibly irritating. If you wish to discuss such topics, then please find an appropriate list to discuss it. RootsWeb provides quite a range and they are available for review at http://lists.rootsweb.com/ alternatively there is Google which has other choices. NTL may even have their own internal help forum, and I presume that information will be available via their HelpDesk. 3. Hi Loraine: Luckily I kept the item regarding the incidence of surnames: it appeared on the "FREEBMD-DISCUSS" list in October 2004, sent in by Peter Norman, and read as follows: "A useful free site, which gives the current frequency of any surname in England & Wales is the based on ONS' database http://www.taliesin-arlein.net/names/search.php Just enter the name and it tells you both current ranking and number of occurrences. The 10 most common are Surname Count Ranking SMITH 652563 1 JONES 538874 2 WILLIAMS 380379 3 TAYLOR 306296 4 BROWN 291872 5 DAVIES 279647 6 EVANS 222580 7 THOMAS 202773 8 WILSON 201224 9 JOHNSON 193260 10 Peter Norman" ______________________________
