    3. Jeremy, That made me compare the 2 entries and may give part of the answer! The files are 1911B3P0316 & 0319. The Surname is PRIOR in 0316 & PRYOR in 0319, but otherwise it's the same birth. 2. bronny.slowe
    3. Transcribers knowledge Base: 6 (x) How do I transcribe an entry which is out of sequence alphabetically with the previous one? Type what you see still applies! But please note: If you are using WinBMD and type what you see, a warning will appear pointing out the out-of-sequence error. However, if you are sure that you have typed it exactly as seen, the warning can be ignored. Having said that, the following would also seem to apply... 6 (g) In transcribing pages there is sometimes a hand-written entry at the foot of the page with a corresponding mark higher in the column. The question is do you a) insert the entry where it is shown that it should be b) insert the entry at the bottom of the column c) insert the entry at the end of the page If the appropriate point for insertion is shown by "x" dagger asterisk etc. then transcribe the extra record as if it was actually at that point (option a). If no insertion point is shown, then insert at the bottom of the page or column as shown on the manuscript. Doing it the 2nd way means no error message. Both ways would appear to be correct. Bronny ----- Original Message ----- From: Sheila Woods To: FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, January 15, 2006 11:07 PM Subject: Re Out of Sequence error I'll add my two cents worth, since it's a little different from having a name at the bottom of the column with an insertion mark. I am transcribing 1858 marriages. In file 1858M2-S-0114.jpg in the second column, the first names for Spackman are Julia Augusta, Emma, Samuel and Sarah. There are very clear + marks (or X's) above and below Emma. I took that to mean that Emma was out of sequence and should be moved, so I put Emma before Julia Augusta. It probably doesn't matter much since all the names will eventually appear in the database, but I'd like to know if that's the correct way to handle it. 3. Hi Barry, With equal respect, this list is simply not the place for the ongoing discussion. This list is primarily for transcribers and transcription issues, and if you want to have a discussion that belongs on our list FreeBMD-Discuss. The updating of the index on Ancestry is a business decision of that company. Their business decisions on which order they import data into their systems and update their global indices has to lie with them. [I believe that they have been concentrating on the census records.] If you wish to address the matter to them, the email address is support@ancestry.com alternatively they have a message board at Boards > Topics > Ancestry.com > Ancestry Site Comments http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=admin.board&r=rw&p=topics.ancestry.ancsite No one outside of Ancestry, and I doubt outside of the immediate team doing the work at Ancestry, will know. Definitely none of the transcribers here. Definitely not me. 3. Hi Ray, If you look at the Help and Hints for Beginners (link below), it tells you how to deal with this. If there is data missing from a field, you use a question mark, and that's what you use to replace a missing volume number. Accordingly, you should transcribe this entry as: "Wynn Thomas W. Hill S.Shields,? Sep 30" - no #COMMENT is required. Bear in mind that you only use a question mark when the data is totally missing, not simply illegible. I really like it, however, I have not had the opportunity to try out other syndicates. I'm stickin' to Scan2!! SheilaW
