Hi Linda, I would say the handwritten word at the bottom of 1932B1D0272 is 'see' - so you would type in 'see S32' without the quotes - pointing the enquirer to the entry for Derek Dyball in the September quarter of 1932. I've made the change of page number and added a comment below the corrected entry. The problem is that in addition to the new page number in the hand written entry is what appears to be a 3 letter word which looks like either ell or eu. Since I've never seen this before and can't seem to find my answer in the faq, can I have opinions as what this word is and whether or not it should be included in my comment and/or with the corrected page number for the pertinent entry?. Hi, I agree - if you check September quarter births for 1932 you find an entry for the same Derek W Dyball. If a field is empty or has a dash in it, follow Uncertain Character Format (UCF) rules and put in a question mark , ?. TKB 6aj http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6aj applies I assume you refer to the handwritten entry at foot of right column. TKB 6d http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6d applies to your second question. Put it in as Thomson , then #COMMENT handwritten amendment of original name Thompson There is a problem because the other change in that line , from 2018 to 2018a has to be commented on I suggest that you combine the comments as #COMMENT handwritten amendment of original name Thompson and of original page 2018 There could be a case for an extra example in 6(d) about what to do if a number is changed like this, from 2018 to 2018a - memo to writers of TKB Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean Winfield" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 12:04 PM Subject: Transcribing. > > I have an entry in 1932 Q2 Births - Page 224 - where there is no Christian > name - do I leave the space blank or insert a Comment. > > Also I have a surname - Thompson - with the P crossed through. I think TKB item 6(d) ( http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6d ) applies. This says that where the original entry is crossed out, transcribe the entry with the amendment and add a comment. You only need transcribe the original as well if it was *not* crossed through. So I would do it like this: French John E. Sheldon Eastry 2a 1852 #COMMENT Mother's name French crossed through and handwritten Sheldon added. French John E. Sheldon Eastry 2A See M59 -- Nowl sherilyn yared wrote on Thu, 13 Nov 2008: >This is how I would transcribe the entry in 1930-b-3-f-357. >French John E. Hi, The problem of incorrect transcriptions should be picked up in due course by our quality control process of double keying http://www.freebmd.org.uk/process.html If you want to get the information corrected before that, then please feel free to submit formal correction requests (*) against any entries that you know are in error. You only need to submit a single correction to one surname from each event/Year/Quarter and I will ensure that all others affected will also be corrected. This correction process can take up to four months before the corrected entries are included in the searchable database. If you need any further advice, then please let me know Kevin S. Howell FreeBMD Corrections Coordinator (*) from the search results page, click the info button at the side of the entry you believe is in error and on the resulting page click the link to submit a correction. Complete the corrections form and send it. I will then investigate and arrange for the changes to be made. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Judy Twist Sent: 12 November 2008 10:42 To: [email protected] Subject: Kirkbride - Kirkbridge Hello there I have come across a problem with nearly all the enteries listed as Kirkbridge on the searchs you so wonderfully provide.
