I'm puzzled by all of this. I have Vista. When I installed WinBMD, I put it onto the root directory under the folder name WinBMD (surprise!). With no further effort on my part, all of the output files turn up in .......WinBMD/Output. I assume that this folder is created automatically by WinBMD. --- On Wed, 19/11/08, M Nasmith <[email protected]> wrote: From: M Nasmith <[email protected]> Subject: WINBMD Output file To: [email protected] Date: Wednesday, 19 November, 2008, 8:02 PM I have Vista Home Premium and have tried to follow the track that everyone mentions (C:/ users/ (select your own user name) / App Data / Local / Virtual Store /Program Files / WinBMD / Output) but cannot find App Data, or Virtual Store. Hi All, No virtual store on my Vista, I came across this problem too! Just wanted to mention the way that I find my Output file. Click Start > Computer> Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Scroll to WinBMD & Click on it. Now in my window I have a blue bar towards the top that has : Organize - Views - Burn - Compatibility Files. Click on Compatibility Files. In the new window there should be a list of about 4 items - one of them being Output ! Hurrah ! Now I would right click and create a shortcut ! I did to my desktop ! So much easier ! Hope this helps ??!! Donna.
I'm also puzzled because I don't know where my files are. They're not in the path that's been mentioned, I can't even find App Data although I'm sure I've seen it in the past. But I've given up trying to locate them because I can still transcribe and upload to WinBMD so I've given up the search. Cath Anders

Hi I am currently transcribing the above file. In column 1 there are two names which have been amended by hand adding an initial and a suffix to the page number. The two entries are also handwritten at the bottom of the column where they are shown in the same form as the amended entries. Should I enter these twice (ie once as originally entered and once as amended) or do I just need to enter the amended version once? Thanks for any help or advice. Regards Phil Stanger
Thanks for the quick responses. I have now successfully sorted out the Output file and uploaded my file to Scan 2. Peter Pannell

Peter, I had the same problem with Vista and spent ages trying to sort it out. When you save a FreeBMD file it ends up in a folder called Virtual Store which can be found by navigating through C:/ users/ (select your own user name) / App Data / Local / Virtual Store / Program Files / WinBMD / Output. I have created a shortcup on my desk top to get to this folder more easily. I have only recently discovered freeBDM but I have already spent a lot of time searching! Thank you so much for providing this fantastic site and for the hours and hours of time and effort that goes into it! Kind regards, Nicole Gaylard

I am transcribing 1900-B2-J-0307. At the bottom of the third and final column there is an otherwise blank line with the three characters 2Q2 printed in the centre of the column. What is its significance and should I transcribe it. A #Comment line or a #Theory line attached to the preceding record does not seem appropriate. Michael
If you have Windows Vista the file may well be saved at C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\WinBMD\Output, where xxxx is your user name on your own computer. By resetting Define Save Path in the File menu to be somewhere in your 'Documents' folder you can find the bmd files where you expect them to be, instead of hunting for them. The location would then be somewhere in C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\ wherever you choose to locate it. Have recently moved to Windows Vista and completed first transcription thereunder. Sent file to FreeBMD successfully, but unable to find Output file in order to send to Scan 2. I believe Vista may do something peculiar with these files. Looking for advice please. Peter Pannell
Peter, I had the same problem and looked on the message boards and found the answer, which is : click on start click on computer click on Local Disk C click on programs scroll down and click on WinBMD folder now in this window on the blue bar towards the top you will see 'Compatibility files' click on this and in there you should find the Output file. I found it very useful to right click on the Output file and create a shortcut on my desktop so that you don't have to go all through this everytime. I hope this works for you. Regards Donna.
Many thanks to all of you who helped with my little dilemma. Linda

How are we to enter in WinBMD, the date of birth in deaths indexes after q1 1969 where the index has no day or month or is otherwise incomplete? Les
