Hi Sue, I don't know what happens if you upload it but you can use the normal Mac OS key sequences to get accented characters in MacBMD. For example to get é you type option-e then e If you access the keyboard viewer via the flag on the menu bar you can see what key to press with option held to get the accent you need. What character does your transcriber need? Mark.
Hello I have a transcriber who uses a Mac and she needs to use a Special Character. Does anyone know if the MacBMD Program has a Special Character table or something similar and if so how is it used. Cheers Sue Coordinator of The Recordsmiths Syndicate of volunteer transcribers working for FreeBMD. See http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ for details of the project.

Every now and again the Rootsweb servers throw a wobbly. When they recover they spew out all the things they have been saving up instead of sending, so message are received out of order. [not a technical explanation....] If you are puzzled, look at the date and time the messages were sent. Different lists are on different Rootsweb servers, so not all lists are affected at the same time. Occasionally if you go to the Rootsweb home page and click on Help you find a big message on an orange background explaining the latest problem. I have just realised that the message on the RootsWeb site refers to a WWW server so it may not be related to the mailing lists. Apologies for any confusion. John. I have also been experiencing problems with the mailing lists since December 2008. There has been a problem at RootsWeb (they host the FreeBMD mailing lists). Please see this post from Allan Raymond dated 23rd Dec 2008: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/FreeBMD-Admins/2008-12/1230048167 There is an update on RootsWeb stating that the problem may have resolved: http://rootsweb.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/rootsweb.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=-aY22-nj John. I seem to be getting the digests in batches. Today i received 5,6 and 8 all at the same time. I received No 7 two days ago. Around Christmas the same thing occurred with a batch of 9 and again only one arrived correctly. Is this a BMD or ISP problem. JBB
Have just used the new version of BMDverify on 1931 Births, it makes life a whole lot easier. I really like the Adjust Columns feature, neat! Thank you, job well done. Gill M. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of David Lang Sent: Thursday, 8 January 2009 8:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: BMDVerify Version 3.0.4 There is now a new version of BMDVerify available that sorts out the various issues that were raised about transcribing 1930's indexes. It can be downloaded from the usual web address http://bmdverify.itendia.co.uk/bmdv3/bmdv3.html The major new feature is some extra buttons at the bottom of the screen, labelled "Adjust Columns", that can be used to adjust the position of the columns showing age at death, mother's maiden name or wife's maiden name (as appropriate for the transcription being verified) and also the district. A couple of times recently I've been asked to add features which were already in BMDVerify so, even for experienced users, I'd recommend a quick read of the "Using BMDVerify" section on the download page in case there's some useful feature that you've not realised was there. If anyone sends a message to a Rootsweb mailing list and subsequently realises it was a mistake, there is a simple procedure whereby the person who sent the message can get it removed from the mailing list archive. Should you ever find yourself in this position, and wish to contact the list admin for advice about how to remove the unwanted message, take the mailing list address - for example [email protected] and then insert a hyphen and the word admin between the list name and the @ symbol, thus [email protected] and use that email address to contact the person(s) administering the mailing list. Jeff assistant list admin, FreeBMD-admins mailing list
Bill Hounslow would like to recall the message, "new BMDVerify".
Mine seems fine. This might sound like a daft question but are you verifying the same file as the one you are correcting? If you re-save a file, WinBMD saves it in the Output folder, regardless of where you loaded it from. You need to check whether you have two different versions of the same file saved in different places. In WinBMD in the File menu you can see from 'Define Save Path' where your corrected version will be saved. If the version you are looking at with BMDVerify is in a different location, the changes will not be seen. Hello Mike, Regarding the "transcription changed" message, I have also noticed this behaviour, but only if BMDVerify is minimized when the errors are corrected and saved. However, I have found that pressing the "R" key correctly reloads the transcribed file (providing BMDVerify is restored, of course). John. That's odd, Mike, because the 'R key' continues to work fine for me - so I don't know what to suggest. And I echo your and other congratulations on the new version - it's wonderful to be able to line up the central columns more exactly. I agree with the earlier congratuations on the new version so far as the column adjustments go, but I have experienced a new problem.
