    3. Sorry Tony but your suggestion is incorrect. It would be correct only if the original showed 'See Sept 24 or 34' or similar, along the lines of http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6u Catherine's original was the correct way to show doubt about the number, using UCF. Having looked at the original I read the year as 34. http://images.freebmd.org.uk/GUS/1934/Births/September/ANC-04/K-Z/1934B3-W-0497.jpg contains a similar entry and seems to confirm Sept 1934 as the reference. 3. Hello! I need some help with a late entry reference. The file is from 1918 December births: http://images.freebmd.org.uk/GUS/1918/Births/December/ANC-04/S-Z/1918B4-Y-0240.jpg and there are two lines that have late entries in their page fields - Worland,Irene D.,Worland,Hendon,3a,See Dec1926 and Wormstone,Phyllis M.,Ashley,Wellington,?,See Sept [23]4 With this second one, I wasn't sure whether it was referring to 1924 or 1934 so I put the either/or option. I'm new to transcribing and had already uploaded the file before I realised that I should have included #THEORY,REF lines for both those entries. I went back to edit them, but kept getting a warning message for the second one: * Invalid late entry reference, at line 91, should be "#THEORY,REF,See quarter/year", e.g. "#THEORY,REF,See D/89" (got #THEORY,REF,See S/[23]4) The system doesn't seem to like the year being either 24 or 34. In the end I entered it as "S/34" as the scrawly digit looked a bit more like a three than a two... But I left the preceding page field as "See Sept [23]4". Was that the right thing to do? Perhaps someone else will look at the scan and decide it's definitely "34" and I can go back and fix it, but the question remains, is there some way of entering a late entry reference date as "See S/[23]4"? 3. You are right the current edition won't accepthe a after a page number. The easiest way to deal with it is to pretend there is no a. Do your transcription. Save it Then open it using notebook. You can now correct the file name (and the initial +PAGE, number). Then you will have to upload it manually using Manage your files. 3. Yvonne - such references normally come in the form "See Dec/34" - are you sure it is an apostrophe rather than a "/"? - would you like me to have a look at the scan? If so, can you send me the link as provided by Lesley? If you are really sure it's an apostrophe, a number of possibilities occur to me for your transcription: a. you could type "See Dec/34" and then add a #COMMENT line saying something like "Entry for page reads See Dec'34" - it is possible that WinBMD would allow an apostrophe against a comment line! b. you could type See Dec/34 and upload it like that into the data base, and then go into Manage Your Files, open up the file, and then correct it to an apostrophe. Do you know how to get into Manage Your Files? See the following link, and follow the instructions under File Management. http://www7.freebmd.org.uk/vindex.shtml If none of that helps, do get back to me. What my co-ordinator recommended was to enter the batch as (in this case) 1919M3S9191 then after the batch has been completed and sent up to FreeBMD land, go and edit the file header there. Worked for me anyway!! Hope that helps. 1. Help wanted

    3. After recently acquiring a new computer I installed the latest version of WinBMD; a couple of days ago I went into the "Change Number of Picklist Rows" and entered 15. I'm not sure whether there is a relationship but suddenly when I type in certain forenames, the picklist does not then revert back to the standard; ie. if I have an entry "Sarah Ann", I type an 's' hit '6' and Sarah comes up but the list of names in the picklist continues to be a list of 's' names instead of the original 9 which means that if I want the original picklist back I need to backspace and hit the spacebar again. This used to happed with the old version but only for one or two names - I seem to remember that Henry was one of them. I tried unstalling the program and re-installing it again but it hasn't helped. Is there any way I can fix this????? Appreciate any advice. Susan Casey Bridgewater, NS
