I am new to transcribing and have a problem with verifying. When I opened the verify box and I got the message.... Suspect file C:\users\bob\desktop\1928D4-A-0002.jpg Could not find any +info\s\f\m\b\u page header lines in the file All I got on the orange line when the verifyer was opened was a lot of meaningless symbols, I am using vista. Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong? Replies in plain english please and you will have to hold my hand to make any adjustments to my files, I'm not exactly computer literate being an oldie. With thanks, Bob

This problem would possibly suggest you aligned/calibrated the ruler and then zoomed into the scan. To overcome the difficulty zoom into the scan and then align/calibrate the ruler. If you are using the ruler, at the top of the scan view window there appears a message 'Move Ruler to Top of Column'. Click on this when you get to the end of the first column and it will jump back to the top. Scroll the window to the right to the top of the second column and adjust if need be to get it under the first entry. I have just restarted transcribing after a break of 12 months. I am using WinBMD on Vista. My first scans are 1934 Marriages which have two columns of 80 lines. However, the Scan Viewer ruler stops after only 75 lines. Have I done something wrong in setting up? Graham
Hi Barbara I am by no means an expert. However, I have the latest version which is 1.9.1 - I assume your 9.1.1 was a typo. Have you perhaps moved the MacBMD files out of the Applications folder, or amended your pick list in something other than a text editor? or renamed it by mistake? Then the auto-finish would not find the entries. Otherwise, the only thing I can suggest is that you move your existing version to the trash and re-download it. I downloaded mine from the FreeBMD site, nowhere else special. Hope you get it sorted! I believe that it is there deliberately. Dudley is a problem district, because it changed volumes, so it shouldn't work from the picklist easily. 2009/3/27 Sue Barnard <[email protected]> > Another point about Dudley - in my version of WinBMD, the default volume > reference for Dudley appears in the picklist as 6b/6c. Another point about Dudley - in my version of WinBMD, the default volume reference for Dudley appears in the picklist as 6b/6c. I have never yet come across this on a scan - and in any case it is automatically rejected by WinBMD because of the non-alphanumeric character. I have added 6b and 6c manually to my picklist, but am unable to delete the superfluous 6b/6c (for some reason, delete is not an option for this particular entry). Not exactly life-threatening, I know - but still slightly annoying. Can anything be done about it? It's easy to overlook this if you are used to selecting Dudley,6b from the pick-list. 2. A new district was introduced in 1937 named "Northumberland North First". Hi Bill You are correct re Dudley. It does seem to have moved from 6b back to 6c. I reported this to the Syndicates list to ask Cordinators to remind transcribers to be vigilent on 13th March. Before making changes to the database however we need to be absolutely sure of when the change happened. Early indications suggest that this happened from 1st April 1935 (June Quarter) but there are only a few results so far to verify. So, provisionally, we have 1 Sep 1837 to 31 Dec 1951 - Volume 18 1 Jan 1852 to 31 Dec 1912 - Volume 6c 1 Jan 1913 to 31 Mar 1935 - Volume 6b 1 Apr 1935 to 31 Jun 1946 - Volume 6c 1 Jul 1946 to 31 Mar 1965 - Volume 9d 1 Apr 1965 to 31 Mar 1974 - Volume 9b 1 Apr 1974 onwards - Volume 33 In 1937 there were several new Districts introduced. Two of those were Northumberland North First and Northumberland North Second. These are typically abreviated to Nthmbland N.1st. And Nthmbland N.2nd I am trialling a new version of WinBMD for Ian within my Syndicate (All Scan) that will deal with these numbers as we have started transcribing 1937 Births. Hello I am using the MacBDM program and have a problem that has just occurred. The Auto-finish is not working at all. I have to type all the entries in completely. The capital letter at the beginning does not appear. Can someone using this program please advise me how to overcome this problem. What is the latest version of this program, I am using 9.1.1 and do not have the website for downloading any newer versions. Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thank you Barbara

Hi Richard I suspect that either the local registrar was rather slaphappy about when he sent in his returns, or the indexers simply forgot that the district existed. In 1840B1 the page numbers range from 186 to 186A up to 186H In 1840B2 they range from 182 to 182E They seem to have sorted out the problem by 1840B3. We were a bit mystified when we first came across it. Two of my transcribers have reported and queried an anomaly they found on 1839 December Births. In both cases the District was Stockbridge,VII. On page-scan 1839B4-W-0072.jpg, at the second line, the Page No. for Stockbridge,VII is correctly shown as 172, but a small mark added above it looks like a figure '9'. Five pages later, on page-scan 1839B4-W-0077.jpg at about the 30th line of records, Stockbridge,VII again appears with Page No. 172, but here is topped with a different mark, resembling a capital 'F'. Has anyone come across this before, and is there an explanation we haven't thought of? Richard Oliver Madrid, Spain [email protected]

Derek Submitting a correction request against the first invalid entry, Armstrong Emmie Brighton 2b 245 (i.e. surname should be ARMSTRONG-DASH) and then ticking "Multiple entries" box will signal to the Corrections Coordinator the need to look at the remaining error entries. On this occasion there is no need for you to submit a multiple entry correction since it has been done on your behalf. Hi there Having used Winbmd of a while and finding it an excellent application, I have a couple of suggestions for enhancement to the program. 1) Issue a sound when an entry becomes unique. Would be very useful for users who need to look at the keyboard when typing, such as me. 2) If the name in the next record is the same as the previous, and it contains an abbreviation, ignore the check on the abbreviation.
