    1. Changing order of Names List
    2. Carol Haycock
    3. I have changed computers and reinstalled BMD. I would like to go back to the first 9 names on the pick list that I am had earlier but am having trouble saving the file when I make the change in the WinBMD file folder. After I have made my changes I try to replace the previous names file with the changed one, and I get the message “Access Denied”. Then when I change to Save As Names3, I’m told I don’t have the permission. I am running Windows 7 and have full Administrator privileges. Is there a change I have to make in WinBMD Properties/Security to get permission. All the permissions seem to be ticked to Allow. Or is there a way around this through saving to the My Documents file. Help please Carol Haycock

    2. Jeff Coleman
    3. Peter's description is fine. I agree that the key step is to close down the computer after installing WinBMD, and restart it before you try to use it. Might I say that as long as you have transcribed something - even one line- and saved it, you can close down WinBMD using Save Batch and Exit in the 'File' menu, then upgrade to WinBMD version 6. You don't have to have completed a whole transcription before doing so. WinBMD version 6 has so many advantages for dealing with typed pages it seems desirable to get new transcribers using it as soon as reasonably possible. I recommend closing down the computer and restarting after upgrading to WinBMD version 6, before using it again. I also recommend that TKB 3(f) http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#3f be followed as soon as possible, to make sure that the transcription files are stored in 'Documents' where they are much easier to find. This is particularly the case if a transcriber has reason to send a copy of a transcription to a syndicate co-ordinator, for checking or advice. Hello Bob I've copied from our ANC-02 set of scans the 3 images you say are missing from our UKD-02, renamed them to suit the UKD-02 set and uploaded them to FreeBMD; they should be available tomorrow. I think this is the best solution. Hopefully your telling Admins of the missing images will cause them to be transcribed. Admins list is a good place to report missing images. cheers Bob Phillips ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Jones To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, May 06, 2011 9:08 PM Subject: Missing images Like Richard, I can not find to whom this should be reported. 2. Bob Phillips
    3. Hello Richard Number 1 We don't check which source of scan is best, the transcriber can use any of our sources to make a transcript. Helpful if the source is noted in the header even if it is a combination of sources. Number 2 I have made a mistake with the numbering and the correction is to rename 1839D3-A-M-0435-DupOf-0434.jpg to 1839D3-A-M-0435-DupOf-0436.jpg which is what I had intended. The reasons are that I considered the 2nd image slightly better than the first and the first keyers had used 436 instead of 435. cheers Bob Phillips ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Oliver To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2011 11:43 AM Subject: Mis-labelling of duplicate scans To whom do I report this one? Recently we were blessed with a complete set of re-scans of 1839 Deaths, for which Allah be praised. Hi, I'm currently transcribing 1952, Births, June, A-F section, Page 0152, and the 4th line for BURGESS, Steven J.D. has a double-barrelled mother's maiden surname which stretches onto the next (5th) line. Normally I would expect the following line to be blank apart from the continuing mother's maiden surname, however the 5th line also contains a new name BURGESS, Susan, but with no other details for district, volume and page. Am I right in transcribing this as: BURGESS,Susan,?,?,?,? #COMMENT entry missing mother's maiden surname, district, volume and page number Or can someone suggest something more appropriate? Open the file in WinBMD as usual and click on Edit from the Top Menu Bar and the last choice is "Edit Header Details" This should take you to the header screen where you can retype your password. Then save the file and return to the Transcribing screen. Try to Upload as normal. 1. Registration or Password Problems Encountered by Volunteers

    3. Should any volunteer experience a problem with their registration or password I would highly recommend they first contact vol-coord@freebmd.org.uk . It is then possible to deal in real time with the volunteer whilst at the same time checking the system. It would be useful if Coordinators could mention this to any of their volunteer who approach them with a similar problem. Allan Raymond FreeBMD Coordinator of Syndicates

    3. The problem has been already been resolved and files have been uploaded..   Allan Raymond --- On Tue, 12/4/11, Jeff Coleman <Jeff.Coleman@ntlworld.com> wrote: From: Jeff Coleman <Jeff.Coleman@ntlworld.com> Subject: Re: To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, 12 April, 2011, 21:29 The FreeBMD password is case-sensitive. So HAPPY Happy and happy are all different, as far as the FreeBMD password recognition process is concerned. Make sure that the version in the header section of WinBMD is the same as the version you use to get in to File Management and to access scans. Make sure also that you do not have a space in front of your password. The FreeBMD submitter ID is also case-sensitive.  There are a few cases where different submitter IDs are very similar - something like Joe and joe. If you have the wrong submitter ID in your header, and that submitter ID actually exists, the message you get will be about wrong password, even if you have your own password right.
