Hello Allan, The actual email has gone from my system but the reply I send to Kevin had a reference of 2011-05-2460 on the Subject line. Do I understand from your recent newsletter to coordinators that you are still requiring volunteers for 'catch-up' purposes. Regards, Roy
Hi Roy, I suggest you follow the advice in the paragraph near the bottom of the correction email i.e.: None of the above should be taken to indicate a deviation from the Type What You See (TWYS) rule. You should only make the requested change(s) if, after viewing your source in the light of the correction, you can agree that the correct entry is as suggested by the correction submitter. So if you don't agree with the suggested correction, you don't have to make it. In this case I certainly agree with you - if the scan shows a capital in the volume then that's how it should be transcribed. what I do is turn off "validate district" in Options, enter the capital volume letter and it is accepted. Remember to turn validate district on again afterwards. Anne
Hi Mike, Thanks for the firm backing. Roy
In the many handwritten entries at the bottom of scans the volume indicator frequently has its letter shown as a capital, e.g., 9B or 9C instead of its allocated 9b or 9c. Having always transcribed what is 'law' i.e., TWYS, I was slightly miffed to get a correction to replace a capital letter with a lower case one. What do we do please? Roy
Hi Graham and Bob, I've also got a FindMyPast subscription and looked for these pages. FindMyPast has three extra pages covering: HARROWELL, Francis - HART, Hannah HART, Hannah - HART, Ruth HART, Sarah - HARTLEY, Isabella Agnes These three pages look different to the surrounding ones and look as if they may be a later addition. The third one is a duplicate of a normal page and covers the same names as our 1839D3-A-M-0830 images. Each of the three extra pages has a handwritten note up the righthand side saying "Death 1839 Sept Hart A-Z". Hope that helps, Mike On 29 June 2011 00:11, Bob Phillips <robert.ph@ntlworld.com> wrote: > Hello Graham > Thank you for finding about the missing pages. Hello Graham Thank you for finding about the missing pages. I admit I looked for missing images in that section but couldn't work out where the missing pages were. I have searched our scans and we don't have them. Can you confirm that Find My Past have the images as it is difficult for me to tell they have them from my limited access. cheers Bob Phillips ----- Original Message ----- From: Graham Bratcher To: FreeBMD-Admins@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 6:57 PM Subject: Re Missing Pages I am a member of the Richard Oliver syndicate and am doing the second keying of 3Q 1839 deaths from a set of rescanned pages and have come across the following. This is the index for "Tip of the Day" series which I first started to send out on the Admin list in 2006 to help volunteers both new and old alike in transcribing for FreeBMD. Sue, I am running Win7 64 bit and have no problems with either F3 or F4. I have not modified any installation options and the program options are the installation defaults. Although not a solution to the problem, at least they can be assured that it works in Win7 (64 bit, anyway). When my function keys wouldn't work when I first got my new computer with Windows 7 I was told to make sure that the 'Flock' was on (next to F12). That solved the problem for me. Thanks, Allan, for your "comment". This is indeed a timely reminder of TKB 6u. A substantial minority are omitting to add the bracketted 2 - (2) - after COMMENT and using their own phrasing of the comment. A few do not add any COMMENT. TKB 6(al) is also not being followed in many instances. The example shows Frederick A.M. being transcribed as Frederick A. M. If there is no space in the index, no space should be in the transcription. Because I cannot guarantee I will remember the correct format for the comment line each time I just created an MSWord file with the #Comment in the correct format which I copy/paste when I need it, changing the Spouse or MMN accordingly (and the number (in brackets) of names to which it applies if necessary) Kind regards Graham -----Original Message----- From: freebmd-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:freebmd-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Allan Raymond Sent: 07 June 2011 10:40 To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Tip of the Day (No. 6) (last updated 06 June 2011)-AlternativeSpouse Names in Marriage and Birth Records Evan You may lead a horse to the water, but you cannot make him drink springs to mind. I'm aware some individuals are not following the advice in the Tip on how and when to insert the #COMMENT line. I would like to think this is because they are not aware of the requirement rather than a deliberate attempt not to follow the advice. I came across one such transcriber yesterday who was not aware of the requirement which is why I have decided to resurrect the Tips if the Day.
