    1. [FRAZIER] Joseph Frazier, 1771, VA
    2. Carleen Adlam
    3. Is anyone out there searching for descendants of Joseph Frazier, born 1771, probably in Russell (now Scott)Co.VA? I have quite a bit on his siblings and a little on his father, but haven't found a single trace of any family or descendants. If you're out there, please get in touch with me! He may be the "key" to linking with about three "branchs" of Fraziers in the US in the early days. Thanks in advance! Carleen Frazier Adlam Tulsa, OK

    1. [FRAZIER] Frazier and Variations 1850 TN Census- Part I
    2. Hi again, The next four posts are from a Frazier website which I discovered this morning on which all Frazier and variations from the 1850 TN Census are posted. The 1850 Census is a great resource since it lists the birthplace of those polled. Even if you do not have TN Fraziers you might check through this.....there is alot of information about what states various Fraziers were living in before TN and TN was a jumping off point to places further west. There are other searchable Frazier databases on this website as well --other census, marriage and military. Hope someone makes a link! 1. [FRAZIER] Bible of Henry Frashur/Frazier PA 1802
    2. HI all, This bible record appears in the PA Bible Records on the PA Genweb. I was interested in it because of the name Joel Frazier, which is a name in my Frazier family. Too late to be mine, but now I think I'll look in New Jersey. Hope this makes a link for someone else. George Frazier FRASHER FAMILY BIBLE "The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: Together with the Apocrypha: translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised with Canne's marginal notes and references. To which are added, an index; an alphabetical table of all the names in the Old and New Testaments with their significations, tables of scripture weights, measures, and coins &c. 1. [FRAZIER] Fw: [DENTON-L] Fw: WWI Draft Cards
    2. Doris/Chuck Denton
    3. --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: CTDenton1@aol.com To: DENTON-L@rootsweb.com Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 09:45:33 EDT Subject: [DENTON-L] Fw: WWI Draft Cards Message-ID: <c191f9ac.24ed647d@aol.com> Forwarded From Another List: M. Dean Hunt Louisville, KY Good Morning everyone: I played hooky from work yesterday and spent the day at the NARA Branch in Atlanta and it jogged my memory to pass on some information to everyone. Prior to the US's entry into WW1 (approx. 1917-1918) every male between the age of 18 and 40 was required to register for the draft. The information found on the card was provided by the individual himself. The registration cards vary in information depending on the individual draft board. But by and large the cards include: The full name of the person (this means first, full middle name, any additional middle names and last name); the current address of the man; his age; his birthdate (some include his place of birth); whether he is a US citizen or a naturalized citizen (some ask if his father was a naturalized citizen and his father's race); his race; his occupation; where he is employed (name of employer); address or location of employment; name and address of his next of kin; some cards ask if the man is married or single and how many people he supports. The card is signed by the draftee. On the back of the card his physical description is noted: Height is broken down by short, medium, tall although some cards give the actual height in feet and inches; Build by slim, medium, stout although some cards list actual weight along with the build; color of eyes and hair; any deformities or injuries are listed (such as one arm missing, blind in one eye, etc); the name and address of the draft board and the date. When these original cards were transferred to the East Pointe NARA branch the LDS spent about 3 years microfilming these cards. There are hundreds and hundreds of boxes and the LDS opened one box at a time and filmed them - in state order. However, within each state the cards were filed by draft board, not by county or by draftee. This makes the searching of the microfilm difficult to say the least. The good news is that the Friends of the National Archives took each box after it was filmed (and checked) and sorted all of these thousands and thousands of cards into - state and then COUNTY order and then in alphabetical order by surname and put then in new boxes. The Friends deserveall the kudos we can give them for this monstrous task. So ... rather than spending hours and hours searching the LDS microfilm you can order copies of the original cards from NARA. if you know the county your ancestor lived in between 1917-1918. And BTW - Ancestry.com lists WW1 Draft cards in their searchable data bases, however I know for a fact that there are 22 cards for the surname WHITE found in McIntosh Co, OK and Ancestry only gave me 4 of them so don't depend on that site. I was told yesterday that some reps from Ancestry had visited the archives a couple of weeks ago to talk about filming the cards, took one look at the hundreds and hundreds of boxes and simply left. For copies: Send a letter requesting copy(s) to: NARA Southeast Region 1557 St. Joseph Ave East Point, GA 30344 In your letter be sure to say you want copy(s) of the WWI Draft application Cards. Include the name of your ancestor and his race, the state and the county. If you want copies of ALL of the cards with a given surname, ask them the cost of the copies and send a SASE for them to let you know the copying cost. In your letter be sure and say you want a copy of the FRONT and BACK of the card. Be sure to send a SASE for the return of you copies. The cost for the copy is 50 cents - 25 cents for the back and 25 cents for the front. If you only want one copy send a buck and say the difference is to be given to the Friends of the Archives, because after all they did all this wonderful hard work for you <VBG> If you have any other questions about the cards please write to me and I'll try to help. I've been "delving" into these cards for the past few years. But PLEASE don't ask me to get the copies for you. It is difficult for me to take the time off from work to visit the archive to do my own research <g>. And feel free to pass this on to any of the lists you are on.

    1. [FRAZIER] George Frazier-Hubbard Ohio
    2. Hi Frazier researchers! Again, not my family (at least not directly, though I do think that there is a link!) This is from a history of the Methodist Church (I am sorry that I do not have the source). Methodism caught hold hard on the "Eastern Shore" of Maryland. My ancestors, who I believe were from Kent Co.,MD. were very strong Methodists, at least once they got west. There is a George Frazier family in Hubbard and Trumball County Ohio, which I believe may be related to the Kent Co.,MD Fraziers.... George Frazier " In the Western Reserve (Ohio), Methodism is about co-eval [contemporary] with the earliest settlement of the country. The first society was formed in Deerfield, in 1801, by a few persons who had emigrated from Massachusetts, namely, Lewis Day, Lewis Ely, their families, and a few others. The next year a society was formed, in th e town of Hubbard, at GEORGE FRAZIER'S, an emigrant from the Eastern Shore of Maryland . In the same year, Henry Shaul, an exhorter, and afterward a local preacher, moved from Georgetown, Pa., having previously traveled nearly forty miles though the woods to visit the brethren in that place, and settled in the town of Deerfield. About the same time William Veach and Amos Smith, local preachers, settled in Hubbard, and helped to build up the society; and Obed Crosby, a local preacher, established himself in the town of Vernon. These opened the way for the introduction of Methodism in the Western Reserve."

    1. [FRAZIER] Joel B. Frazier - Harrison/Boone County, KY
    2. Here is a bio which appears in the Kentucky biography section on Rootsweb. It is for Joel B. Frazier, my gr,gr,gr grandfather -son of Joel C. Frazier and grandson of George Frazier whose posts appear earlier. I also have a copy of his obituary from a Missouri newspaper from 1890 or 91. It appears that his son James L. Fraizer born in 1848 is the only son who survived. His daughter, Mary Catherine married her first cousin in Missouri, Joel R. Frazier, so she too carried on the name. I believe that daughter Margaret married John N. Gibson Anyway, hope this helps someone..... George Frazier Gdudleyf@aol.com From the book "Kentucky: A History of the State" by Battle, Perrin & Kniffin" published 1887 the following bio was written about Joel B. Fraizer: JOEL B. FRAIZER was born in Harrison County, KY., December 14, 1807. He is the seventh of a family of ten children born to Joel and Margaret Miller Fraizer. Joel Fraizer, Sr., was born in Pennsylvania; he came to Kentucky at a very early date, and settled in Harrison County, where he lived and died. His wife, Margaret Miller, was born in Virginia, and came to Kentucky at an early date and settled in Harrison County. Joel Fraizer, Sr. was a farmer, and for several years was one of the county officials of Harrison County. Joel B. Fraizer was brought up on the farm, and received a common- school education. He lived in Harrison County until 1839, when he moved to Boone County, and purchased land and settled where he now resides. He owns 331 acres of land, all well-improved. On December 15, 1836, he was married to America Snodgrass, a daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Simmons) Snodgrass, of Harrison County, but originally from Pennsylvania and Virginia. To this union have been born nine children -- seven daughters and two sons-- Mary K. (*** my note: she is also listed as Mary Catherine in the Frazier Family Bible and she married her first cousin Joel R. Frazier), Margaret A., Bell H., Laura, James L., Emma D., Thomas J., Ada, and Lizzie. Laura, Thomas J., Ada, Lizzie and Emma are dead. Mr. and Mrs. Fraizer have been members of the Presbyterian Church for more than forty years. Politically Mr. Fraizer is a democrat. Note: In the 1850 Ky Census Joel B. Frazier appears as follows: Boone County KY 1850 Census (taken August 15) has the following: Joel B. Frazier- 42 years old; farmer; land value $6600; born in KY America Frazier- 34 years old; born in KY M G - 10 year old female ( M.C.? I believe that this is Mary Catherine) M A - 9 year old female Isabella - 7 year old female Laura A - 4 year old female J L - 2 year old male
