    3. Most Precious Cousins and fellow "Rooters", Thank you for your support. The many responses including web sites, books, various resources, accolades, and sharing of views, sentiments and great family stories has been overwhelming. Last count (listserv and/or personal) to my post and appeal for African American information was 123 and still coming since 8:22 p.m. last night. All will be acknowledged as requested individually or to the list. I will share all information pertinent to your surname request, so bear with me as my tree includes a database with over 2300 names dating back to 1840. Hopefully some of my information may help you find some puzzle pieces as well. Again, thanks for helping a "sistah" out. If I don't see you here, I'll see you ... HEAR?!! 1. African Americans
    2. Valerie Williams-France
    3. Fellow Listers and Genealogy Friends, I'm throwing my wish list out here again because in reading previous posts, most didn't mention the ethnic background. IMHO, unless the listserv or posting has indicated a race, it's assumed most are Caucasian. My family is African American or in the case of slaves, mixed (German, Indian, Caucasian). For those who have documents or other resources, please check for mention of free Blacks, slaves or Mulattos (Wills, Deeds or Plantation names, etc.). I realize this is a touchy subject but unfortunately a lot of slave info was destroyed. Even headstones of slaves and African Americans were removed from graveyards. It's a sad, sad story but neither you nor I participated. Please, if you come across any mention of slaves, free African Americans, multi-racial (German or Indian mixes), or Mulattos, keep me and other researchers in mind and pass the information on. Most African Americans stemmed from the southern states and islands and gradually branched out. Sometimes we were allowed to take an owner's name, previous owner's name, plantation name, or first or middle name of the father if he was White ... I'm leaving all options open. Together we can all be involved in finding our roots, no matter what the past unfolds. Any information (no matter how trivial) on the following would be greatly appreciated: WILLIAMS, GREEN/GRUEN/KROEN (German), BASKERVILLE (A.A. Co., Balto. Co., MD, Germany and ?) BURLEY, COOMBS/COMBS, GAMBRIL/GAMBRILL (MD and ?) JONES, MILES, QUEEN (NC, VA, MD and ?) SMITH, NELSON, JOHNS, RICE (Annapolis MD, TX, VA and ?)
