On January 7th Ancestry/Rootsweb announced that beginning March 2nd, 2020, they will discontinue their Mail Lists functionality. Upon receiving this notice Paul L. LeBlanc immediately began searching for another website that could accommodate the mailing list format he uses on Rootsweb. After much research, he determined Google Groups was the best option. So he has created two new public Google groups: “Our Acadian Roots” and “Our Louisiana Roots”, which between them will consolidate 77 Acadian and Cajun, 10 uniquely Louisiana, many French surname, and 32 Louisiana Parish Lists. The new consolidated Genealogy research/discussion groups will focus not only on Acadian and Louisiana ancestors, but also on "All Early French in North America". Come visit the groups' new websites and take a look at the new format: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ouracadianroots or https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ourlouisianaroots If you would then like join either or both of them, just click "Join group to post" located at the top left of the page. If any questions or problem joining contact Paul at [email protected] If you would like to create your own "OUR ______ ROOTS" Google Group for your family or Parish/County, contact me at [email protected] . I may have some ideas to help you get started. In addition, we may be able to add your new group to our new and expanding research family. For more information, Paul L LeBlanc at [email protected]

I still do not know his mother's name, she was simply listed as Mrs. Francois on the passenger list. His father was Louis Francois, born 1847 in France. Now the juicy part... Walter was an 'inmate' of the Burnham Industrial Farm in Burnham, NY. He was convicted of arson at this same facility at fifteen years of age. I am in communication with this school, which held the records on microfiche, for his records. He was admitted to the school when his father was convicted of murdering Walter's step-mother, they had been married only two years, Louis was imprisoned at Sing Sing prison in 1885, he is listed there on the 1900 Census. Upon reaching adulthood Walter added an H to the name, changing it to Franchois, he moved to Illinois, married Ruth Little and produced four living children the eldest: my grandmother, Helen Mildred Franchois in 1909. He died Oct 25, 1957, in Taylorville, Christian County, Illinois. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is just as complicating for me about the Francois side of the family as it is for you. I am a native New Orleanian too, and I am trying to find more inquiries about the Francois of Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. I don't know if there is a possible connection or not because my creole ancestors had kept many secrets, so therefore, I don't know, it could be a high probability that we could related. I have not been consistently on ancestry.com as I once was relentlessly trying to find more inquiries. I hope you will find more inquiries as my main objective is to find more inquiries than what I have attained. GOOD LUCK MARCUS. My greatgrandmother was Louise Marie Francois who married Albert O Duffy. They only had two children, Mamie Thelma (grandmother) and Robert Fred who never married. I remember as a teenager, after my grandmother passed away, I liked to go through a box my mom had kept that had photographs and I remember reading a letter Louise had handwritten claiming land her father, Andre, had left in Corsica. In the letter she gave details about his arrival in Louisiana. And, even though I cannot recall the details, she mentioned the ship's name and date. My mom, it seems, has the box in storage. I have only recently started researching my family tree and I have mentioned the letter to my mother but she seems to have no knowledge of it. I have not been able to find details about Andre Francois, only census info from LA. My aunt Norma, Louise's youngest sister, lived with our family the last couple of years of her life, she talked about Edgar! and Frankie, but not much about her older siblings. Are you related to my great grandmother Louise? I would be grateful for any info you might have on the Francois. I'm curious about the stepson, what was his name? I do not know my fourth great grandmother Josephine's maiden name or if she had even derived from Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. He was, according to family legend, born on a ship coming from France just as it entered New York Harbor. He was said to be a twin, but no one remembers his brother's name.
