French's Gazetteer of New York State 1860, states that the Town of Remsen, (Oneida County), formed from Norway (Herkimer County) in 1798. A footnote number 8 states: "Among the early settlers were John Bomer, Nath'l Rockwood, Bettis Le Clerc, Perez Farr, and Jonah Dayton, in 1793." Does anyone have any link to this Bettis Le Clerc who settled in Norway which then became Remsen? The town was apparently also know as "Jack" (with an umlaut) for quite some time. This town is the first trace I have of my gg grandfather Henry Franquer, and I am wondering if the reason I am having such trouble finding him under Franquer/Francoeur is that his family may have been using the Le Clerc designation. Thanks for any input. Sally
