    2. Paul L LeBlanc
    3. On January 7th Ancestry/Rootsweb announced that beginning March 2nd, 2020, they will discontinue their Mail Lists functionality.  Upon receiving this notice Paul L. LeBlanc immediately began searching for another website that could accommodate the mailing list format he uses on Rootsweb.  After much research, he determined Google Groups was the best option.  So he has created two new public Google groups: “Our Acadian Roots” and “Our Louisiana Roots”, which between them will consolidate 77 Acadian and Cajun, 10 uniquely Louisiana, many French surname, and 32 Louisiana Parish Lists.  The new consolidated Genealogy research/discussion groups will focus not only on Acadian and Louisiana ancestors, but also on "All Early French in North America". Come visit the groups' new websites and take a look at the new format: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ouracadianroots or https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ourlouisianaroots If you would then like join either or both of them, just click "Join group to post" located at the top left of the page. If any questions or problem joining contact Paul at [email protected] If you would like to create your own "OUR ______ ROOTS" Google Group for your family or Parish/County, contact me at [email protected] .  I may have some ideas to help you get started.  In addition, we may be able to add your new group to our new and expanding research family. 1. Keep our public records FREE
    2. To all genealogists: TOO many times we are forced to buy documents that are a matter of public record on file in public offices across the the nation. These documents -- wills, probate records, deeds of every type, birth, marriage and death records -- were placed on file as a matter of record only after a fee was paid to place them there so they would become public records. As a genealogist living in Texas, I cannot afford to travel to states like Georgia, South and North Carolina to publicly view records that could offer information about my family ancestors. I cannot afford to pay a professional researchers to it for me. I must rely on people who, like myself, are willing to share what resources we have -- people who have been to those far away places. If we don't take a stand for our heritage soon it will be gone and beyond our reach. PLEASE take time to read the petition at the address listed below. If you agreed that public records should remain FREE, please sign the petition and pass this link on to every genealogist you know. http://www.petitiononline.com/ethan/petition.html I was the 4768th signer. There are millions of other researchers we need to reach. If you don't care to sign, please pass this on so that some one else may have the opportunity. To Al Noblin, thanks for sending me this message. I was not aware of this situation. Mildred Stinson Brown Palestine, TX Our Southern Heritage 33rd Ala Volunteers

    1. Le Clerc (dit Francoeur ?), Oneida County, NY
    2. French's Gazetteer of New York State 1860, states that the Town of Remsen, (Oneida County), formed from Norway (Herkimer County) in 1798. A footnote number 8 states: "Among the early settlers were John Bomer, Nath'l Rockwood, Bettis Le Clerc, Perez Farr, and Jonah Dayton, in 1793." Does anyone have any link to this Bettis Le Clerc who settled in Norway which then became Remsen? The town was apparently also know as "Jack" (with an umlaut) for quite some time. This town is the first trace I have of my gg grandfather Henry Franquer, and I am wondering if the reason I am having such trouble finding him under Franquer/Francoeur is that his family may have been using the Le Clerc designation. Thanks for any input. Sally

They reportedly plan to dig up all the graves at the Milwaukee County Poor Farm cemetery, place all the remains in one box and then bury those remains someplace else. The Milwaukee County Poor Farm began operation in November of 1852 with 24 people housed in a remodeled farmhouse. It remained in operation until the early twentieth century with additional buildings and a hospital constructed as the indigent population grew. You can find more information about the Poor Farm at "Jen's Photo Scrapbook Of the Milwaukee County Poorhouse" at: http://www.poorhousestory.com/WISC_PhotoScrapbook.htm Here is the message from Evelyn Oliveras: I need the help of each one of you who feels as strongly as I do about cemetery desecration. We have a county cemetery called Potter's field or sometimes referred to as Milwaukee County Poor Farm which is about to be desecrated by the county Board of Supervisors. They say they will dig up all the remains, place them in one box and move them to another location. These poor people were already buried on top of each other originally, and the whole thing is very sad to those of us who care. I am in the process of transcribing the burial registers to post on the web, but it is a long difficult process with different handwriting, etc. I have a full time jo

    3. Hello list, In researching my family name I have come across three different lines of Francoeurs. The first (in no particular order) is the LECLERC dit Francoeur family. I made no attempt to research this name as it is not related to my line and is well documented in other quarters. The second line is the CHARLAND dit Francoeur family. The closest that my family came to the Charland dit Francoeur family was very far back. In the year of 1710 Joseph Charland dit Francoeur married Marie Angelique Harbour who was the sister of Marie Harbour the wife of Innocent Laroche. Innocent was my matriarchal 13th or so great grandfather. My line is the AUMAND or HOMAND dit Francoeur family. This name was being used by Jean Homand back in 1760. He was a French Regular who fought in Canada during the French and Indian war. This name carried forward until about the 1850's when the different sons of Pierre Homand dit Francoeur started there own families and broke tradition by moving away from the family farm in Montreal. By 1870 most had moved to different regions carrying with them different versions of the family name. They were 1) Aumand, 2) Homand, 3) Francoeur. As difficult as it was to trace my family line with the varying names, it is sheer simplicity when compared to the job of trying to find the Homand dit Francoeurs who stayed with only the Francoeur name as their surname. Most do not remember where they came from. The rest assign their identity to one of the other two Francoeur lines. Specifically I only suspect one or two heads of family back in 1870 that may have used the Francoeur surname. That would have been Joseph and Maxime. But another half a dozen may have done the same thing. I am only asking the list to be aware of my line. And if you come across this name, please do not brush it aside as a mistake. Please contact me with any suspicions. Thank You. Dennis E. Homant ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis E. 2. As far as I have determined, my family is Francoeur only. They came from Canada and emigrated to Swanton, VT, where there are several Francoeur properties shown in the town records. At some point, the Francoeurs became Truehearts/Trueharts/Truharts and in Church records in Swanton, VT, both Francoeur and Trueheart are used to refer to the same people. Alexander Trueheart married Rosette Barton in Chelsea, VT in 1865. An Alexander Francoeur is shown in the Swanton records and may be the same person. Has anyone else on the list seen these two names used interchangeably? Bambi Dingman [email protected]

    1. Francoeur - 1800's - VT
    2. Does anyone have any information about Francoeurs in the state of Vermont? There is a possibility that the family name I'm researching (Trueheart) is a rough translation of Francoeur and that my family, in fact, may have originated as Francoeur. Joseph Trueheart is listed on the census in Swanton, VT in 1840. Records from Swanton show that the name Francoeur and Trueheart were used interchangeably. Has anyone noticed this name in their own family tree? Have any Francoeur's from Vermont that we could compare notes on? Other family names that I'm researching that may be related are Barton, Blake, Borey, and Goocher (Goucher?) Thanks for any assistance you can give me! Bambi Dingman [email protected]

    1. MERRY CHRISTMAS & a HAPPY NEW YEAR from your host PAT GERBIG
    2. S A N T A ' S S E C R E T W I S H On Christmas Eve, a young boy with light in his eyes Looked deep into Santa's, to Santa's surprise. And said as he sat on Santa's broad knee, "I want your secret. Tell it to me." He leaned up and whispered in Santa's good ear "How do you do it, year after year?" "I want to know how, as you travel about, Giving gifts here and there, you never run out. How is it, Dear Santa, that in your pack of toys You have plenty for all of the world's girls and boys? Stays so full, never empties, as you make your way >From rooftop to rooftop, to homes large and small, >From nation to nation, reaching them all?" And Santa smiled kindly and said to the boy, "Don't ask me hard questions. Do you want a toy?" But the child shook his head, and Santa could see That he needed the answer. "Now listen to me," He told that small boy with the light in his eyes, "My secret will make you sadder and wise. "The truth is that my sack is magic. Inside It holds millions of toys for my Christmas Eve ride. But although I do visit each girl and each boy I don't always leave them a gaily wrapped toy. Some homes are hungry, some homes are sad, Some homes are desperate, some homes are bad. Some homes are broken, and the children there grieve. Those homes I visit, but what should I leave? "My sleigh is filled with the happiest stuff, But for homes where despair lives toys aren't enough. So I tiptoe in, kiss each girl and boy, And I pray with them that they'll be given the joy Of the spirit of Christmas, the spirit that lives In the heart of the dear child who gets not, but gives. "If only God hears me and answers my prayer, When I visit next year, what I will find there Are homes filled with peace, and with giving, and love And boys and girls gifted with light from above. It's a very hard task, my smart little brother, To give toys to some, and to give prayers to others. But the prayers are the best gifts, the best gifts indeed, For God has a way of meeting each need. "That's the best part of the answer. The rest, my dear youth, Is that my sack is magic. And that is the truth. In my sack I carry on Christmas Eve day More love than a Santa could e're give away. The sack never empties of love, or of joys 'Cause inside it are prayers, and hope. Not just toys. The more that I give, the fuller it seems, Because giving is my way of fulfilling dreams. "And do you know something? You've got a sack, too. It's as magic as mine, and it's inside of you. It never gets empty, it's full from the start. It's the center of lights, and love. It's your heart. And if on this Christmas you want to help me, Don't be so concerned with the gifts 'neath your tree. Open that sack called your heart, and share Your joy, your friendship, your wealth, your care." The light in the small boy's eyes was glowing. "Thanks for your secret. I've got to be going." "Wait, little boy," said Santa, "don't go. Will you share? Will you help? Will you use what you know?" And just for a moment the small boy stood still, Touched his heart with his small hand and whispered, "I will." May God Bless you and keep you safe this holiday season. >>
