Regards, Vanessa Catterall The Friends of these cemeteries are recording and photographing tombstones in these historic cemeteries. They have located many graves that are subject to lease expiry notices and some of the tombstones are the worse for wear. Lease renewals and tombstone maintenance are the responsibility of the descendants of the deceased and there is concern that valuable historic information will be lost if descendants are unaware of/or are unwilling to accept this responsibility. If you have a relative buried in either of these cemeteries a call to Council's Cemetery Officer Jill Connor will bring you up to date on the status of the lease so that your family can discuss preserving the grave for perpetuity.
