    3. Evening all, Would just like to wish Kath, good luck with the Journal, I'm sure she will do a great job. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Vanessa, on behalf of the committee and the membership for the fantastic job she did of the Journal over the last two years. We have had a great variety of articles and anecdotes which have been a delight to read. Vanessa has also kindly offered to help Kath on the way to doing her first Journal if she needs any advice etc. So with the help from you all, submitting items to Kath will keep it full of interesting articles. Please send any ideas or articles direct to Kath on her email address below and not through the group's list, as we'll all be reading a future Journal, and be thinking I'm sure I've read this before somewhere. LOL!! The new committee is having a 2013 preview meeting Monday Dec 3rd to do some planning and outline some things for next year. and will be wrapping up until the new year, recharging the batteries so we can have another fabulous year. On behalf of the Membership, last year's committee nominated Anne Dow for the Southern Suburbs Volunteer Award, for all her work in rejuvenating and organising the Resource Room over the last two years. We are pleased to announce that the nomination was successful, and Anne will receive her award tomorrow. Congratulations and well done Anne. Any local news, success in your research, overseas connections, funny stories etc would be welcome. Length does not matter. If very long we can spread over more than one volume. I hope to include a magic moments spot for those great successes which appear unexpectedly as part of our research. Also there are a number of new members who have joined us this year. It would be great to hear from you so that you can introduce yourself and your interests. It is amazing how many connections can be made from even a small amount of information. 3. HI Graham Great story with a real message for us all. Thank you very much for sending it. You can never tell until the research is done if people with our names are related and of course there is no end to the research. I hope to put it in this journal. 1. Re: [FPFHG-LIST] Journal
    2. Graham Redman
    3. Hi Kath, An interesting anecdote for "Relative Thoughts" should you wish to publish.... Many many years ago when we were all being introduced to computers, my son put my name in as an Internet search. What came up was very interesting. There was a Graham Redman in New Zealand, another in Malmesbury in the UK, another in Bristol UK, one in Vancouver Canada, and 8 names popped up in NASA, (same man?). Even later I found another here in Adelaide, but he died a young man. Even more weird, was that my brother is Warren, and the Malmesbury Graham has a brother Warren in Calgary, Canada. All this got me onto doing our family history, which most may know has now been published. Through this information I contacted Graham in New Zealand, who was a Finance Manager in Wellington. More weirdness, as when the Port Stanvac Oil Refinery was considering closing, Graham was brought here by Mobil, and he was booked into the Old Reynella St Francis Winery Motel. Guess what, I picked him up from the Airport and drove him to the Motel. We walked into the foyer and I said to the Manager 'Hi I am Graham Redman I live over the road, and this is Graham Redman your guest.' We floored him...he thought we were joking, but it ended as a great laugh. Next, I phoned the Bristol Telephone Exchange and asked the operator for the possibility of phoning this Graham Redman. She said 'Which one do you want? I have one and a half pages of Redman's.' 'Just give me the first one.' I said. So I made contact initially by mail and got no response, so I phoned the number and introduced myself. The male person said he was not there, and that he was a private detective looking for him. Next one, I couldn't reach the Malmesbury Graham so I phoned his brother Warren and he was OK but I did not follow up on him. Yes one last one, I contacted the Graham in Vancouver and found him to be the editor for the local newspaper in his district, and more weird, he was very involved in Model Railroading, as I am....but after a while we lost contact. When I tried again I found he had passed on. So sadly, my family tree contacts there led to no contact at all over time. It is amazing what the Internet can achieve. The lesson I learnt here is that please follow up these contacts sooner than later, and don't leave then for too long as I did. Regards Graham Redman. 0416635290 On 12/2/12, Kathleen Fisher <kathfisher6@hotmail.com> wrote: > > Hello Everyone > > Many of you will be fully aware that the journal Relative Thoughts has had a > change of editor. It is a water play and is in a plastic shopping bag. If you have not sold it as yet, please hang on to it--I need the water pump out of it. 3. http://www.encounterbayfhg.org.au/About us We meet on the second Thursday of each month, except December and January, in the Victor Harbor Library meeting room at 10 am. Visitors welcome. We start with an informal meeting and discussion, including morning tea. Members then have access to the library’s computers 11 am–12 noon to pursue their own research or to help each other. History Encounter Bay Family History Group grew from the South Coast Family History Group. The group began in 2001 following a genealogy course presented by Victor Harbor Seniors On Line (VHSOL). It operated under the auspices of VHSOL for seven years. In 2008, the group branched out independently with a base at the Victor Harbor Library. Encounter Bay Encounter Bay stretches from Newland Head at Victor Harbor to Cape Jaffa (near Robe) on the southeast coast of South Australia. Its hinterland is the Fleurieu Peninsula, and the lakes systems of the lower River Murray, including The Coorong. Historically, the bay was the meeting place in 1802 of the British and French explorers charting Australia’s coastline: Matthew Flinders in his ship*Investigator* and Nicolas Baudin in the *Géographe*. Our major towns are Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Middleton and Goolwa, all approximately 80 km south of Adelaid
