    3. This is interesting to the point that I feel I must visit these cemeteries, as only this week after perusing and noting family information received from Interstate that several of my relatives are buried, as noted, in the 'Brighton' cemetery. This is in the 'Redman' tree. Thank you for the information. Graham Redman On 26/9/08 4:30 PM, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote: > Fleurieu Peninsula Family History Group Inc. 2. Vanessa and Graham Catterall
    3. Hi All Following on from the very interesting talk last week by David Wald - I saw in the Holdfast Bay Council newsletter the following article about the St Jude's and North Brighton Cemeteries. Regards, Vanessa Catterall The Friends of these cemeteries are recording and photographing tombstones in these historic cemeteries. They have located many graves that are subject to lease expiry notices and some of the tombstones are the worse for wear. Lease renewals and tombstone maintenance are the responsibility of the descendants of the deceased and there is concern that valuable historic information will be lost if descendants are unaware of/or are unwilling to accept this responsibility. If you have a relative buried in either of these cemeteries a call to Council's Cemetery Officer Jill Connor will bring you up to date on the status of the lease so that your family can discuss preserving the grave for perpetuity. 3. Hi All Below the latest newsletter from AFFHO. Some time ago the FPFHG commited to being part of the Congress 2012 - Adelaide so we thought members might like to be kept up to date with some details. Regards Vanessa Catterall Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations (AFFHO) Report on Council Meeting 5th August 2008 The Council met by Teleconference on the 5th August, the first meeting since the 4th February, the previous meeting being the AGM. A number of issues were discussed. National Family History Week The Week was launched by Mark Holden of popular music fame in Melbourne on the 1st August. I attended the launch, which was attended by about 50 people. The launch went well and Mark spoke on his own family history discoveries, a World War I casualty, three generations running a circus etc. 978 packages were posted out to family and local history societies. The Week was sponsored by the National Archives and Family Search for $10,000. There has been a good take up and promotion of the Week by archives and public libraries in particular. A number of societies have had open days, waiving visitor's fees for the day or week. Nick Vine Hall Award This Award is for the best journal submitted in two categories. The judging panel was Patricia Barth (widow of Nick) of The Family Scriptorium, chair; Michele Stephens of the Australian Family Tree Connection; and Andrew Peake. The winners were; Category A (societies with less than 200 members)- 5 journals submitted for judging. First, Links 'n Chains (Liverpool Genealogical Society); Second, Southern Suburbs Scroll (Southern Suburbs Branch, GSQ). Category B (societies with more than 200 members) - 7 journals submitted for judging. First, Western Ancestor (WA Genealogical Society); Queensland Family Historian (Queensland Family History Society). Complete details will appear in the next edition of the AFFHO Newsletter, together with some comments by the judges to assist editors to improve their journal's as this is an important aspect of the Award. Treasurer's Report The Treasurer has some $37,000 in hand, although expenses for the Nick Vine Hall Award and National Family History Week have still to be received. New Members The Secretary reported that a number of new societies have joined AFFHO. Congress 2009 - Auckland Registration is open and to date about 120 registrations have been received. They are hoping for between 450 and 600 delegates for the 16-20 January, 2009 Congress. More details including the program available on their website. www.affhocongress2009.org Congress 2012 - Adelaide A logo has been accepted and planning is currently focused on promoting the Congress in Auckland in January. A website and email address has been acquired and will be developed in the next few months. Other Business Federation of Family History Societies (England) - they have closed their publishing arm, after over-reaching themselves financially. Genealogical Society of Utah (the family history arm of the LDS Church) has renamed itself Family Search (the name of their website). Triennial AFFHO Award -Nominations for this three yearly award - these close on the 30th October. Andrew Peake, Vice President & SA Representative

    3. Hi all I've had an interstate inquiry about four Riseborough families who emigrated to SA from Norfolk in the 1850s and 1860s, three of whom had links to Inman Valley and Willunga/Aldinga. Is anyone researching this family name? I checked our Member's interests on our Web Page, but found it was temporarily out of order. I'll do some research in the Willunga Courthouse records, but thought I should also check to see if any of our members are interested in the Riseboroughs, so that I can put you in touch with this interstate researcher. 3. Dear Group, can anyone help point me in the right direction (Barry Maslin maybe?). I've been told my G grandfather did quite well at cycling in Victoria in the early 1900's. As his father did not approve of this pursuit he competed under the name of Farley. I am presuming he probably used on or more of his other names, - he was born William Henry Percy Johns b1888. Does anyone know where this cycling history info may be found? regards, Sharon Green

    1. [FPFHG-LIST] Candy Family
    2. Heather Burdett
    3. Hi Robert, Yes, the information given to me from England is... On his death certificate William Edward Candy married Ann Brown, they had 11 children, the first 3 were marked dead, the next 4 are William, Roger George, Alfred and Henry, the next 4 are marked dead. This family (I think all of them) went to Stawell to live, Henry married Augusta Spangler sister to my Great Great Grandmother, they had about 9 children and then migrated to South Africa, it is not known if any of Henry's brothers or sisters also left Australia, My main area of research is, Did any of William Edward's relatives also come to Australia and how do I find out what Ship/Port did Henry and Augusta with their children leave Australia and sail to Africa, I have quite a bit of research from Stawell, only BDM records from Sth Aust., there doesn't seem to be a list of passenger/cargo ships leaving Aust. Hope you can follow all this. To the other people good enough to answer my query on the Candy family, Thank you, I will follow up all leads. Regards, Heather.
