The N.C. connection seems to fit what little we know of this Fox line. We have a Cora Brewster, the daughter of Matilda Clark and Jason Brewster, who married a William Fox. His mother was Matilda Fox who married Wm. L. Vannoy. The story goes that during the Civil War, he went off to fight, and never returned. Later, Matilda assumed that he had been killed during the war. She received word that he was still alive and seen living in another state (not Kentucky). She went looking for him, only to find him living with another woman and several small children. From that point on, she and her children assumed her maiden name of Fox. A picture exists of a person we assume is Matilda, wearing buckskin clothes and looking very Indian. Is this any help? Geri
