    1. Re: [FOX] Back for more!
    2. Hello Jade, In some of my other family groups, the males who still carry the surname of the family have been involved with a DNA testing to see if some documented lines have DNA that match to people whose lines are not so clearly documented or vice-versus. I am by no means a scientist, but as I understand it a male carries DNA markers like his father; like his grandfather; like his great-grandfather etc. If back in the history of the family, a brother to one of those ancestors may be the progenitor of a branch off, and perhaps some of the documentation to make that attachment becomes missing, the male descendants of that branch who still carry the surname, can be tested, and if their DNA markers line up with those of the documented group, a kinship is scientifically established. The procedure is quite simple from what I understand. The donors must swab the inside of their cheek with a q-tip, and that can be sent for analysis in an appropriate mailer to a laboratory set up for DNA work. One cousin of my Wells family, whose documentation is somewhat lacking has found that his DNA markers match up quite well to another cousin whose documentation is unquestionable. This clarifies, that in spite of other missing documentation, both are of the same family line. This may be the new proof required of some genealogical societies to establish genealogical connections for membership purposes, who knows?
