If you are fortunate enough to know his number (or even if you don't have the number), you could send for a copy of his social security application (cost $27). that form (which was filled out by the applicant), will show his birth date and place, plus his parents names and birth states. Being born in 1898 leads one to believe that he has passed away. Have you sent for a death certificate? This form (costs varies from state) also will show his birth date and place and his parents names and birth states. This is will also show who reported the death info (usually the next of kin) and the funeral home that handled the services. Contacting the funeral home will get you a bit of additional info such as the minister (a lead to church records) and the pallbearers (usually family members). Hope some of this assists you along you way.
