    1. [FOX] Re: Fox family Allegheny & Butler Co., PA ca 1800-1850
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GKX.2ACIB/7030.1.1 Message Board Post: I don't know if your family is related or not. I found some puzzling land transactions in Allegheny County, PA. A transaction involving John Bougher and the "heirs of Robert Bougher" also mentions that Jacob & Martha Fox were heirs of John Jones who died in 1809. (I know John Jones had a daughter named Martha mentioned in his will -the presumption here is that she became the wife of Jacob Fox - but why they were named in land transactions involving John & "heirs of Robert Bougher" is unclear). Later in the 1860s an Elizabeth Fox is named as a landowner from the distribution of the estate of Peter Bougher (whose wife, Rebecca was probably the daughter of the same John Jones metioned in the earlier transaction). So, I'm not sure how Robert & John Bougher were related to Peter Bougher (I suspect they may have been his sons) or if there were 2 marriages between the Fox family (Martha Jones to Jacob Fox and then Elizabeth to ? Fox or if Elizabeth was the daughter or grandaugh! ter of Jacob & Martha Fox (and if so, how did she end up with some of the property from the estate of Peter Bougher?) Any clues appreciated!

    3. Vicki All of your theories on this seem valid from the information. The only thing I can think of is to check the early marriages and church records to confirm the theory. There are some one line databases on the early marriages by DAR that might help at least a start. I have found the same family names in almost all the counties that my FOX's traveled. Most of the groups went together to new locations. I wouldn't be a bit surprised that your Fox's are in some way a branch of the Fox's I seek. I have through census so far found only a couple that could be mine. The Jacob Fox came to OHIO in the early 1800's from PA with his family. One of the children of this Jacob was Peter FOX . So far I haven't proven or disproved that this Peter is the father of my Otho. I have printed out your email and when I get some information I will let you know.
