It's been awhile since my last inquiry. Seeking ancestors of John W. Fox b. either 1859 or 1863 MO. Married Evalena Blackburn 1887, d. 1901 Elk Co.,KS Parents may have been Benjamin H. Fox and Elizabeth Ditto. There is a family connection to the Deeds surname. The John W. Fox b. 1859 was on 1880 census at Clark Co., MO. I think he may have lied about date of birth on marriage registration and used 1863 to appear 10 years younger to bride's family as she was not quite 18 at time of marriage. The 1859 John W. Fox is the only one I can find on census. I hope someone has info on Fox, Deeds, Ditto that will help us.

There seem to be many people interested in the ancestry of Josiah Fox of Ohio. The following is taken from a British publication: Burke's Landed Gentry "Pedigree of Fox of Grove Hill, Etc." pp 6 - 22. I have a xerox copy. FOX OF ST. GERMANS "Burke in his "History of the Commoners," states "that the numerous families of Fox at present residing in the West of England sprang from one common ancestor, a Francis Fox, who married, 1646, Dorothy Kekewich. Tradition represents him to have come from Wiltshire (it is said from the parish of Farley, or that of Pitton), somewhere in 1645, during the commotions of the civil war. He is stated to have been descended from the same family as the celebrated Sir Stephen Fox, ancestor of the Earls of Ilchester and the Lords Holland. It is likewise handed down that he was one of seven or eight sons, and that others of the same family also came into Devonshire and Cornwall, settling at Plymouth and Looe, but left no sons who survived. "The wife of this Francis Fox was Dorothy Kekewich. She was of good family, being a relation of the family of Kekewich of Exeter, whose house at Catchfrench, in the Parish of St. Germans, being then vacant, became their residence on their first settling in Cornwall. "Francis Fox and his family, consisting of three sons, joined the Society of Friends soon after its first establishment in Cornwall. Some of them shared in the sufferings that awaited its early members on account of the stand they so resolutely and successfully made for liberty of conscience." Francis Fox (d 1670) m Dorothy Kekewich in 1646 Francis Fox m (2nd) Tabitha Croker on Mar 30, 1686 John Fox of Plymouth m (1st) Lovall Applebee John Fox of Plymouth m Rebecca Stevens in 1747 Josiah Fox (1763-1847) m Anna Miller in Philadelphia Josiah Fox and Anna Miller settled in Ohio and had 2 sons, Charles James Fox who married Esther Cooper and Francis Drake Fox who married (1st) Julianna Jennings and (2nd) Julianna Updegraff They also had four daughters: Elizabeth Miller Fox who married M. W. Chapline of Wheeling WVA, Anna Applebee Fox who married Robert J. Curtis of Moundsville, WVA, Rebecca Stevens Fox who married E. Pickering of East Richland, OH, and Sarah Scantlebury Fox who married B. E. Dungan of Colerain, OH. Burke's Landed Gentry goes on to show the early members of the Chapline, Curtis, Pickering and Dungan families on pages 20 thru 22. It also shows the many other Fox family descendents of Francis and Dorothy Kekewich Fox living in England. A later edition carries this down to the mid-1900s. My own interest in all this is that there is pretty good evidence that my ancestor, Edward Fox, of Plymouth, was a nephew of this Francis Fox who came to Cornwall in 1645. I also have learned that another descendent of Francis Fox, named Hingston Fox, has found evidence that Francis Fox was born in January, 1606/7, the youngest of 7 sons of Henrie Fox of Devizes, Wiltshire. I hope this is of use to FOX HUNTERS Joe Fox ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 06, 2002 8:35 AM Subject: [FOX] Re: Josiah Fox > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GKX.2ACIB/1073.1839 > > Message Board Post: > > Hello!
