Okay all Fox Hounds, you guys are some of the kindest folks on the earth being so supportive to Kathie, but no more messages on the good-bye thread Happy Huntin', Terry (FOX) LATEY [email protected] Founder and Director Fox Genealogical Research Group - "The Fox Hounds" http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~fox
Hi All, Every once in a while we have a concern like this on the list. Most the time it happens because people are frustrated about searching their ancestry, and come across a bit cranky on the list. As of now everyone is back to the search, Kathie has resubscribed and is going on with her hunt let's all do the same. No more messages are needed on the subject. Happy Huntin', Terry (FOX) LATEY [email protected] Founder and Director Fox Genealogical Research Group - "The Fox Hounds" http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~fox
Still trying to find the hiding place of the ole James P. FOX, b. 1812 Stonelick Township, Clermont Co, OH; d. 1872 Adelphi, Iowa; m. Rebecca Adriana WILLS on 2/23/1839, Clay County, Indiana. All documentation we have found lists him as James P. FOX. However, sometime as an adult he adopted the name James Kellogg Polk FOX. We believe the Kellogg was for the Kellogg family that his daughter, Martha, married into and the Polk was for the President, James K. Polk. James was a blacksmith per several census records. The census records also show his parents as being from Kentucky. We believe his parents were James FOX and Peggy (Margaret?) BERRY who were married 7/4/1804 in Clermont Co, OH. I have much info on James and Rebecca's descendants (they had 16 children), and on Rebecca's ancestors. However, that sly ole FOX, James P. keeps eluding us. Any help with this ole guy would be greatly appreciated. Lois in Auburn, CA
Thanks to kind people like you, Fran and others on this list, I am going to stay and hope that the mean-spirited comments from the individuals (you know who you are) will be discontinued. I had always enjoyed being on this list and hope that I will not be driven off. My thanks to Utha, Mardell and the others who have posted their kind words of support both on and off the list. And in this vein that I would like to end my comments for now are the words my own grandma used to say, "If you do not have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." Be nice to others especially since you may just need me or one of us FOX kin to share our FOX info with you some day and I won't share with those that have been unkind to me...... I agree with Bob. This world is a mixture of nice and not so nice people. "Trashing one's site" was rude. One can disagree without being disagreeable. Sorry, you were hurt. I have no idea what this is all about. I have been trying to locate my husband's ancestors for about two years. I have LEARNED that this is time-consuming and HARDWORK. Folks, if you find a web site that is problematic, how about giving the person suggestions? Such as, "Say, you've put a lot into your web site. I think it would be more user-friendly if you......." That person probably put a lot of work into that web site. Imagine how you'd feel if you did that and invited people to go to it for info that might help them, and having them trash you. Let's be KIND to each other! (after all, we're all related!) If someone else's info doesn't help you, MOVE ON, but don't publicly trash them. PLEASE! Thank you and have a nice day :) Linda
Not only are we prolonging the hurt that Fran feels, we are leaving a terrible trail for others to read at a later date. Please...Fran we're sorry. Now we'd like to move back to genealogy. Lois in Auburn, CA

Ah, and my apologies for the name confusion. I looked right at your signature line, and then called you Nellie... must have been your e-mail address that through me off. And, since I generally hate to post off topic: I am still looking for Elijah Fox who was in Alexander County, IL in the mid 1800's! His birth is listed as 1800, NC, he came to Illinois by way of Tennessee, had a on named Hugh, a daughter named Sarah, and 2 other daughters who's names escape my old and fragile memory at the moment. Any tips are always appreciated! Nellie, I'll be quite honest with you. If your feelings are so easily hurt by the words of just a couple of people who quite obviously have problems of their own, then perhaps leaving the list is for the best. I think that is not the case however, if you stop, take a deep breath and consider the situation. You will encounter many people in these lists that have no couth, no manners, and apparently no decent upbringing. They are everywhere and they are unavoidable, they speak out of turn, and no not what they speak of. I visited your site, I had absolutely no problem either loading or navigating it. It is very tastefully done and contains a lot of information that will prove valuable to many people. I have received complaints before concerning my site, some of them very similar to the whining I just witnessed on this list. All I had to say to those people was, "This is the 21st century. Web pages just do not load all that well when you are dialed in at 14.4 kbaud using Windows 3.1." Take heart Nellie, you have done a fine job, and if they want to skip over the resource you have provided them with, out of the kindness of your heart, with your own time and effort, then let them skip over it. Add their names to your personal trash filter and never have to hear from them again. The complainers will always be complainers, but you have to be able to separate them from those who are trying to offer something constructive. I have found that when designing a website I have to take into consideration that some folks do not have the latest and greatest toys. I make my living working on and with computers, I keep about 1 generation behind the latest technology, so that when the new toys roll out this year, I will upgrade to what the top of the line right before the new stuff was rolled out. My mother on the other hand doesn't care about computers all that much, she just wants to be able to check her email, so she is using an older machine that functions fine for that, but when she tries to load my pages, even dialed in at 56k, things are slow. I keep that in mind when doing my work. No midi files to load, no graphics without warning, pictures are kept on separate pages. Perhaps these people who spoke out on the list were equipped like my mother and while trying to voice their opinions, perhaps they just did not stop to consider their words, and the impact they might have on your feelings. Perhaps however, they truly were just naturally crabby, mean-spirited individuals, with nothing better to do than spoil your generosity with their own miserable ness. I don't know, nor do I care personally, but I do care that you were offended by them no matter what their intentions. I do care that their words could deny the community a person who takes the time to put forth any effort, be it large or small, that freely benefits others. The decision to stay or go is your own, but remember, your work is your own to be proud of, and you should never let the words of one or two out of the hundreds deter you in your attempts to do what you see is right and helpful.
