John Kendrick was an executor on his will, as well. The Virginia Historical Magazine Volume VIII, published by the Virginia Historical society in 1978, Millwood, NY pp382-383 states that Henry Fox, who was the sheriff of King William in 1724 and 1725 and was a vestryman of St. John's parish in 1730 was probably another son of Henry Fox I. William and Mary Quarterly XX, published in 1977 in Millwood, NY, pp.263-265 has Richard descending from John Henry and Thomas. (Of note: both this journal and the previous one has Richard as a grandson of Henry Fox I.) It goes on to state "John Kindred or Kendrick, who was from Louisa County married Amy, daughter of Richard Fox." Source of this info is not sited. Ancestry of the Fox Family of Richland and Lexington Counties, South Carolina by Joseph Steadman, Sr. 1972 p. 119 States that "Henry Fox (2nd) is now generally accepted as the son of Henry and Anne West Fox." Ben Robinson lists Richard Fox as a son of Henry Fox II on page 121. Submission # 6528-b number 7 on the Fox Family in the Special Collections at UVA library in the Fox Family file there in a typed page saying Mr. Thomas H. Fox's diary (T. Fox was -according to this file- born at Retreat, King William County on April 16. 1719) was mistaken about the original ancestor of the Fox family in Virginia....Major Richard Fox came over to Virginia, 1649, with Colonel Norwood. The writer of the UVA file believed that John was a son of Richard Fox. Then the writer says the colonial entry states "Major Richard Fox, Major Frances madison and Colonel Henry Norwood, officers in the Royal Army, during the Civil war, refugees in Holland, determined in 1649, to come to Virginia. On September 13, they embarked on the Virginia Merchant, and arrived in the colony in November." (Where is this colonial record???) I bring this writer's thoughts out to show there is questioning of some of the published information out there.....some say the original ancestor in America was John Fox (like Ellen Cocke in her compilation of materials in the book "Some Fox Trails in Old Vrginia, Rchmond, VA The Dietz Press, published in 1939, page 9.) and others say that the reason Richard Fox is not directly related to the Henry Fox family is because Richard is not a first name used in the family before!! (Good reason to use proofs, I guess!!) Do you know where Thomas H. Fox's diary is located?? Call Number 9713 Manuscripts and Papers of Currier, Kendrick and Owen Families at UVA library states that "John Kendrick married Amy Fox, daughter of Col. Richard Fox whose plantation of 400 acres is in Mecklenberg Co., VA at the time it was in Lunenburg Co., VA near St, Tammany's Ferry." "The Kendrick's plantation was Flint Hill." " He married Amy Fox in 1764." The documentation of this information was not noted. Homesite of the Fox's is pictured in Some Fox trails in Old Virginia on the Mattaponi River....built by either Henry Fox or his son Thomas. I'd love to know where some of these writers found their info....the Thomas Fox Diary and the Colonial Record....do you know anything about these items??? -Nancy Haussmann

Am a 90 year old family researcher who started back in 1917 when my grandfather took me on his lap and said, "Let me tell you about the old times." But I must confess that it was only about a year ago that I discovered that Richard Fox's daughter Hannah Fox was my maternal GGGG Grandmother and married Richard Towns, settling in Warren County, NC. The mother, Lura B. Fox (Lura B. Ragan) is listed as 46, Divorced, and has her sons Forrest B. Fox, 24, Lawton R. Fox, 19, daughters Lucy A. Fox, 17, and Dora E. Fox, 14 living with her. As I understand it, Lura was first married, about 1900 to someone named Finley, and I believe that Forrest Fox was originally Forrest B. Finley, and not Fox, but I don't know for sure. The other children may have also been born Finley's. According to the census, Lura was born in Missouri, Forrest in Illinois, Lawton in Oklahoma, Lucy in Colorado, and Dora in California.
