I have placed a listing of the FOX names in the 1890 Philadelphia City Directory (PCD) onto my website. This is an excerpt compiled by another researcher. It contains only the FOX surname with the first names from A-Z, or W in this case. For those unfamiliar with the PCD, it contains the name, occupation and address of individuals. If a person was a proprietor, the name and address of the business is sometimes found too. Children are not listed nor are women, unless they were 'independent'. The original PCD is alphabetical by "surname, first name" but I spent some time with the excerpt and grouped together individuals who were linked by the same house number and street. For instance, in the original, Benjamin is in the B--- section and Elizabeth is in the E--- section. On this page, you find Benjamin and Elizabeth together under Benjamin because they lived together. (This is my husband's widowed great-great-grandmother and her son) http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~familiesacrosstime/foxpcd1890.htm Use Ctrl+F to find a name. I do not have additional PCD pages or names. This is all I have. There may be errors, either from the original PCD or the transcription. Please verify any conclusions you draw. I hope that the additional groups are helpful - I went through the exercise out of curiosity to see how many, or few, of the Fox families tied together. I resisted the urge to group together "neighborhoods", so take a second look if you find your ancestor and look by street name alone...maybe the brother lived down the street.... Good luck. Add to the area, just across in the Alexander/Pulaski (Pulaski neighbors Pope to the west) area my Elijah Fox. Elijah was reportedly born in North Carolina, about 1800. I know of 4 children Harriet, born 1825, Hugh born 1830, Sarah born 1836 and Adeline born 1838. Harriet and Hugh were born in NC to the best of my knowledge, Sarah, my GG grandmother has been listed as born both in Alexander County and in Warren County, TN. When she filed for her second husbands Mexican War pension she listed herself as born in Alexander county, So that puts one more Fox family in that little region by the mid- 1830's coming out of NC. I'm still nowhere with that particular line, and have no other info on my Elijah. Not even sure of when he died, I have not been able to find a death listing for him.
