Actually, I know the parents and sibblings names, place of birth ext. The oldest living member of this family, and other family members that I am aware of, do not remember knowing anything about Elbert. I thought perhaps someone related to this family, who is involved in research, OR who knew the family, that I don't know about, might have information related to him; perhaps an early death. I am fairly new to research. Should I have listed this another way? THANKS for your help. Fran

If you are fortunate enough to know his number (or even if you don't have the number), you could send for a copy of his social security application (cost $27). that form (which was filled out by the applicant), will show his birth date and place, plus his parents names and birth states. Being born in 1898 leads one to believe that he has passed away. Have you sent for a death certificate? This form (costs varies from state) also will show his birth date and place and his parents names and birth states. This is will also show who reported the death info (usually the next of kin) and the funeral home that handled the services. Contacting the funeral home will get you a bit of additional info such as the minister (a lead to church records) and the pallbearers (usually family members). Hope some of this assists you along you way.

I know many of my ancestors married Cherokee women and were forced off their lands...

I was told that G grand father was a cherokee. My grand father's mother died during child birth or soon after. That his grandmother Shonkwiler said that she would raise him and is father could not take him when he was older. My grandfather was born Oct 15 1899 in Independence Indiana.Since his grandmother raised him he had taken her last name.It was never talked about just mention that his last name should be Fox. At my grandfathers funeral Oct 2,1974 His stepmother was there her name is Elizabeth M. Fox. She lived in Hebron In. I was able to track to death records she lived to be 90. She was born.Aug.2 1888 and died June 1979. Her maiden name was Coatney. Then after reading that native american where not buried in white cemeteries I will have difficulty in finding my g-grandfather grave. Then I also have learned that native american didn't write things down they were passed form person to person. The information that Sherri received was most likely correct. If by chance anyone should know the name of Elizabeth M.Fox husband name I would like to know it.

In general to find something with details you offered is like needle in haystack stuff, unless Robert Albert was registered with some source. If you have an estimate date of birth/bap, marriage details etc they may help and put on right path. Dependant on time all names were not used in records be they birth/bap, census, marriage etc. i.e he could be simply listed as Robert, some even changed there name from birth/bap. Happy to help out further if you can supply some leads to search from other sources.
