    1. [FOWLER] Book on DeKalb Co., GA Fowlers
    2. Mickey and Connie, I'm sure you both must have this book, but for those others who have Fowlers from the Joel Fowler line in DeKalb County, GA and may not have heard of it, there is a great book which gives a lot of detail on this family. It's called "Greatness Without Fame" and was written in 1967 by Loaz Whitfield Johnson and Maybeth Bowman Johnson of Salt Lake City. It covers the lines of Fowler, Johnson, Spriggs, Land, Story, Price, Hardeman and Bird, who relate to the Fowler and Johnson lines of DeKalb County. Unfortunately, I cannot connect my Fowlers of Gwinnett (Nathan) to these Fowlers of DeKalb, but my Nathan Fowler had a grandson named Joel and I was hoping there might be some connection. So far, zip. However, they (Johnsons, descendants of Solomon Johnson and Charlotte Marinda Fowler) do connect to my Blakes in Randolph County, AL. My Nathan Fowler of Gwinnett was born about 1800, supposedly in TN, and married Elizabeth Pepper(s), daughter of John Pepper(s) and Hester Whaley. Nathan's parents are still a mystery. Nathan first officially appears in Gwinnett in 1840 and remained in the Snellville, Grayson area all his life. he died about 1860 and is said to be buried in the Fowler-Gresham cemetery, but the cemetery has been paved over and made into a subdivision. His children were Hester, John (my ancestor), Reuben, Sarah, Kelly, Zephania(h), Elizabeth, Marion, Matilda and Martha Ann. Connie, the author doesn't mention your Hilliard F. as a son of Hilliard J. He only gives three children: (1)Joel M. Fowler, b. 29 Dec 1842 in DeKalb, d. 24 Mar 1884, married Vidora E. Unknown (2) Permelia C. Fowler, b. 25 June 1848 in Dekalb, d. 26 Aug 1905, bur. Wesley Chapel, married David Pinkney Chandler. (3) Mary Frances (Fanny) Fowler, b. 1854 in DeKalb, d. 1933, married William M. Francis The author states that Hilliard J. Fowler married Caroline Amanda Fowler, daughter of Minty Fowler and Unknown Akin. I'm sure that resources in 1967 were at a minimum and much more information is now available on this family. Mickey, the only Samuel mentioned in the book was a Samuel W. or C. Fowler, b. 1851 in Dade Co., GA, son of William W. Fowler (b. 1812) and his second wife, Mrs. Sophia Bomar. The author gives the location where William and Sophia obtained their marriage license in 1846 as Milton County, but I know for a fact there is also a marriage record in Campbell County for this couple. As you know, Milton and Campbell were both merged into Fulton. William Fowler, father of this Samuel, was the son of Joel Fowler of DeKalb and his first wife, name unknown. Hilliard J. is given as the son of Joel Fowler and his second wife, Sarah Unknown. The author also states that this Fowler family came from Laurens Co., SC. The parents of Joel Fowler are given as being John (b. abt 1740, d. bef 4 Jun 1791) and Molly Fowler of Laurens Co., SC. Joel Fowler's siblings are listed as Thomas Mitchell Fowler, Pricilla Fowler, Deborah Fowler, More or Moses Fowler, Tabitha Fowler, Jesse Fowler, James Fowler, and America Fowler. These name s were taken from John Fowler's will, written 20 July 1787 and probated 4 Jun 1791 in Laurens Co., SC. I'm almost certain this book would be available on microfilm at any LDS Family History Center and probably at the Georgia Archives. It may even be available in a library in DeKalb. Hope this helps someone find their Fowler connections. Good luck to all ... Judy Fowler Kilgore Newnan, GA
