    1. Re: [FOWLER] Fowlers
    2. I do not know if this will be of help to any of you or not, in a book on Quakers entitled Carolina Quakers-Our Heritage, Our Hope by S. and M. Hinshaw there are this quote: Page 4: In about 1616 "Massachusetts passed a law to the effect that any ship master who brought a Quaker to the colony would be fined 100 pounds and also be required to take the passenger away again ... During this period an English Quaker named Robert Fowler felt that God wanted him to build a ship. Obediently, he set to work and the conviction came to him that the purpose of his ship was to carry Quaker Missionaries to America ... He named the ship WOODHOUSE ... eleven Quakers made the voyage with Fowler ... the frail ship reached Long Island safely." So this Robert Fowler came tot he new world in the late 1600's and one would assume stayed. Were some of the 11 family members? It doesn't say. Where did he go from Long Island? We don't know but a good guess would be New Jersey or PA where there were other Quakers since they were not exactly welcome in New England. The Rowan County Public Library in Salisbury, NC has a great collection of material on Quakers and other early Pennsylvania settlers. I thought this may help you folks. Marian
