I am looking for any information on my grandmother, Nancy Jane "Tennessee" Fowler Smith. I understand that she just loved Tennessee, so she gave herself the nickname "Tennessee". So presumably she spent some time in Tennessee between birth in Texas and marriage in Arkansas. Also a possibility that her parents were born and/or lived in Tennessee. She was born February 28, 1861 somewhere in Texas. She died and was buried in Paris, AR. Her first husband was Isaac Newton Mitchell. They had two children, Jim and Annie. She married my grandfather, William Barton Smith on May 9, 1886 in Creole Township, Logan County, AR. Her Smith children were C B, Barton, Bonnie, Seth, and Herbert. This is ALL the information I have on my grandmother, Nancy Jane Fowler Smith. So, please make the connection for me. Ever so thankful, Bill Smith ----- Original Message ----- From: <FOWLER-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <FOWLER-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2004 4:00 AM Subject: FOWLER-D Digest V04 #14
In my Fowler family there was a Tennessee Fowler (it was her actual given name) who married Alanthus "Lish" Fowler (cousins). My Tennessee married in 1848 and died in 1860, so she could not have been the mother of Nancy Jane. Also, I do not have the names of two infants born to Tennessee, but probably they did not live, which is why I don't have their names or sex. Tennesse's line was that of John B. Fowler and Elizabeth Lee. Perhaps one of her siblings had a child who began calling her Tennessee in memory of mine. These Fowlers were in Marshall Co, TN.
