Seeking any thread, hint, clue---anything regarding James N. Fowler. Using census information, he was born about 1811 in NY (except in the 1880 census which says he was born in CT.) I find him first in IL by about 1834. Son Francis C. was born in IL about then, and later census indicates that there was a James S. Fowler, age 16, in the household. Daughter, Laura V., born about 1837, somewhere in IL. First location I find for him is through his son, Henry R., Civil War records. Henry was born in Chatsworth, IL 17 Nov 1839. Next son, Charles N., born 22 Jul 1844 in Peoria, IL. And then Leetel (or Leete), born about 1846 in Peoria, IL. No record found of first wife's name, but she must have died shortly after the birth of Leete. James N. married Nancy Crow in Peoria 12 Sept 1848. Apparently she died, as a third marriage record is found in Fulton Co., IL to Magdalen Whitmore. In 1880, James N. is listed in the Peoria City Directory, and, in the 1880 census, he is shown with his son, Henry, at Henry's home in Iroquois Co., IL. So far a search of available NY records have not turned up James N. Fowler. Nor is there a record of his death in Peoria Co., Fulton Co., Iroquois Co., nor any of the counties to which his children moved and settled. Any connections gratefully appreciated, and any hints most welcome. Jeanne Fowler
