    1. [FOWLER] Re: Lawson & Wiley Fowler
    2. Helen Allen
    3. Jim Allred, Wiley Fowler and Rachel Lewis are my ggg grandparents through their son Wiley W. Fowler and Nancy S. Doss. Wiley W.and Nancy are on the 1850 Bibb Co., AL census. Wiley W.'s brother Miles was in the house with them. Wiley W. had been awarded land in Bibb Co. because of his services in the Mexican War. Miles was was born about 1822 and Wiley W. 1824 in SC. Wiley and Rachel lived in Spartanburg Co., SC and came to Coosa Co., AL in about 1832. We think Wiley W's middle name was William. Wiley Sr. died before the 1850 Coosa Co. census. Rachel can be found on the census 1860 thru 1880 in Perry Co., AL where she died 10 Mar 1880 according to an entry on the 1880 census. Other sibs of Wiley W. were Lewis m Lucinda Perkins, Elizabeth b. abt. 1820, Missouri b. abt. 1827. She m 1) William Foster and 2)Samuel L. Woods. I have Mary b. 1832 m. Newell Baker 16 Nov 1855, Coosa Co., AL, and Mahala A. Forler b. abt. 1834 m. Jesse Driver 21 Sep 1852, Coosa Co., AL. Also Martha Fowler b. abt. 1841. Mike Mizzell, my cousin through Griffins, Fowlers and Stanleys of Bibb and Perry Co., AL, is a descendant of a Harriett Fowler and his Mizzell ancestor. I had a Harriett b. 1830 dau. of Wiley and Rachel, but Mike says she was b. in 1815 in SC according to their family records. He does not know which Fowler was her father, but he does know she first married a Guthrie before a Mizzell. So I am uncertain whether she was a first child of Wiley and Rachel, a sister of Wiley who m. Rachel, or perhaps there were two Harrietts in this family. Rachel was a daughter of Ephraim Lewis and Margaret /__/. Ephraim was willed 1000 acres "S. of the Tennessee River" by his brother George Lewis. This was in Spartanburg Co., SC. Lawson Fowler, Sr. b. 1793 was a brother of Wiley Sr. Lawson m1) Mary Coxey in Rutherford Co., NC on 21 Dec 1812. All of his children were by her except the last one. He m2) Nancy Dacus on 4 Nov 1839 in Pinetucky, Perry Co., AL. They had one child, Mary, b. 1842 who m. a McCullen. Lawson and Nancy, dau. Mary McCullen and her dau. Mary are on the 21 Jul 1870 census of Cameron, Milam Co., TX on p. 263, dw. 769. Lawsons children by Mary Coxey were 1) Lawson Jr., b. 1818 m. Mahala Gentry 31 Oct 1837 Perry Co., AL 2) Cynthia b. 1820, m. John Ratliff 18 Jan 1840; 3) Ellen Ellender m. William F. Church 4 Feb 1841; 4) Jane m. Barney Caldwell 19 Jan 1843; 5) Wiley m. Susan F. Nalley 18 Aug 1850; 6) John Wesley Fowler m. Nancy Davis 30 Jan 1864; 7) Martha J. m. John S. Collins 29 Jul 1848 I have candidates to be the parents of Lawson Sr. and Wiley Sr. and probable brothers but no proof. How did you become interested in these Fowlers? And do you think we are connected?
