Joe... Yes...I am the great-great-granddaughter of Thomas Blake who operated Blake's Ferry on the Tallapoosa west of Wedowee. (Thomas Blake m DeLaney Young, >son Isaac Blake; Isaac Blake m. Mattie E. Dorman, >dau. Lula Gadsy Blake; Lula Gadsy Blake m. Luther Clarence Fowler, >son William Jethroe Fowler; William Jethroe Fowler m. Marian McWhorter, >dau—me.) I have wonderful information on the Blakes thanks to a book written by Kate Blake Daus back in the 1950s called "Southern Blakes," which was passed down to me by the second wife of my uncle, Thomas Luther Fowler, now deceased. I am attempting to do three things: 1. Share my Blake information with anyone who needs it and enhance it if I can. Your website will certainly help there. Many thanks. 2. Trace the Blake female line through the Dorman, Young, and Vickers lines to "flesh out" the pedigree. I am "stuck" on Allen Dorman (b. abt. 1832 in GA), father of Mattie. He was married to Aurilla G. Vickers, daughter of Charles Dean Vickers and Martha Edmonds. I have information on Aurilla...I need information on Allen. 3. Trace the Fowlers (who married into the Blakes right and left). I am "stuck" on my great-grandfather, William Jethroe Fowler (b. 1849, d. 1919, buried in the Baptist church cemetery in Ranburne along with two of his brothers that I know of). One of his brothers, George Wilson Fowler, had a daughter (Mary Kate Fowler) who married Forney Linton Blake, my grandmother Lula's brother. (Oh what a tangled web we weave...) Since Cleburne County was formed out of Randolph County, I am putting out "feelers" in that entire area. The Dormans and Vickers lived in Heard County, GA, which is right next door. Ironically, my dad's folks were from Randolph/Cleburne and my mom's folks were from Cleburne/Carroll (GA). Neither family knew each other. Both families migrated to the Atlanta area (actually East Point), both daddies worked for the railroad, and it wasn't until the 1930s that my mom and dad found themselves living in the same neighborhood, met and married. Strange but true! Thanks for your response. I will look up the website and file it away in my favorite places. If I can help you with anything, please don't hesitate to ask. Judy in Newnan, GA
