    1. [FOWLER] Fowler Family web site

    3. Hi Ciccy, My website is http://mrfowler.com I made a big mistake by not being clear in the email I sent out earlier. I have been researching my line of Fowlers for about three years now. Most of the pre 1930 records of Fentress County Tennessee were destroyed in a fire. I have linked my line to the Henrico Co., VA line through the book House of Fowler by Grover Parsons. In his book is published 2 letters from John Fowler of Hopkins Co., KY to his brother, Moody Fowler, in Granville Co., NC (pages 102,103). The author, Mr. Parsons, claims these brothers to be the sons of Richard Fowler II, son of Richard Fowler s/o Mark Fowler from Dinwiddie Co., VA. I only photocopied pages 100-110. On those pages, the author does not state how he reached this conclusion nor does he specifically state, "Mark Fowler from Dinwiddie Co., VA is the Mark Fowler mentioned in Godfrey's will of 1743". This is only my assumption. As far as I have seen, Dora Glenn Fowler does not treat the family of Mark Fowler, beyond son Godfrey III, at all in Annals of the Fowler Family. Back to the letters between two brothers which Grover Parsons claims to be the great grandsons of Mark Fowler of Dinwiddie Co., VA. In the letters, written in 1849 and 1856, John Fowler discusses another brother, William Fowler, who ,moved to Fentrys Co., TN. My William Fowler line first appears in Fentress Co., TN, which is most likely the county John is speaking of, in the 1840 census. By looking at the 1850 census, I know that William, his wife Ann, and five of the younger occupants, ages 32-17, were born in NC. There are also five younger occupants, ages 13 - 2, that were born in Tennessee. By this, I presume my William Fowler and his family relocated to Fentress Co., TN about 1836. Furthermore, the last evidence I find of William Fowler and Nancy Ann Byars in Granville is Nancy Ann Byars father's will dated April 25, 1831. "Proved Feb. court 1832 - WILLIAM BYARS wills to wife LUCY land whereon I live, all negros, all furniture, stock, tools, for lifetiem and, at her death, I give to daughter FANEY GRIGGS $100.00 and the residue to be divided, 1/3rd part to daughter ANN FOWLER; 1/3rd to son ALEXANDER BYARS, the other 1/3rd to my grandsons WESLEY and JOHN ALEXANDER BYARS, but if either die before of age, then the survivor of them. Exrs. ALEXANDER BYARS, WILLIAM FOWLER. Wts: JOS. HESTER, WILLIAM AKIN JR. Will proved on oath of CYRUS DAVIS and BENJAMIN BULLOCK became administrator." As you can see, William Fowler was an executor of this will in Feb of 1832. Even more revealing is in the 1856 letter from John Fowler to brother Moody Fowler, he states, "Brother William was dead, he died the latter part of the winter of 1855, his family is still living in Fentrys County, Tenn." My William is no longer with us in the 1860 census however, his family, headed by Nancy, is. Additionally, I find Nancy Fowler, wife of my William Fowler, making Fentress County land transactions in May and Sep of 1856. I am convinced the brother William spoken of in the letters and my William are one in the same. I am also convinced then that my William Fowler is the one that married Nancy Ann Byars in 1816 in Granville County, NC, their first child being born between 1817 and 1818. So, I know my William Fowler had at least two brothers John and Moody and if I accept Mr. Parsons' interpertation, they were the sons of Richard II, grandsons of Richard I and great grandsons of Mark Fowler from Dinwiddie Co., VA. In addtion, my William married Nancy Ann Byars in 1816, they migrated from Granville Co., NC to Fentress Co., Tennessee some time between Feb 1832 and 1836 and he passed away in the winter of 1855. With that said, I became frustrated by the large gaps in documentation and also, the repeated use of first names in the various lines of this Fowler family, causing confusing and publication of possibly inaccurate information. I recently replaced my old web site content with a new vision in mind, one dedicated to serving as a centralized place where we can all share our data and hopefully sort out some of that possibly inaccurate information. Since I made the first post, my email has been flooded with requests to assist in research of other Fowler lines or vague statements about who someone is researching. Although many of these Emails have been helpful in increasing my knowledge on the various Fowler lines, that was not my intent or desire. I can however, help facilitate research of other lines by offering a message board at my site where other Fowler researchers, whose families originate from Henrico Co., VA, can post their questions, findings, or links to their own sites. The message boards are set up with the most common first names to help organize the data. For example, I have a Richard that I have traced to the Tar River Dist of Granville Co., NC and you have a Richard that you have traced to Union Co., SC. and Someone else knows only that their Richard listed his birthplace as SC in the cenus records, and yet someone else has traced their Richard to Laurens Co., SC. By having a a specific forum dedicated to the discussion of Richard Fowler, we may be able to assist each other in not only sorting out Richard but also placing these Richards with the correct parents, much the way Dora Glenn Fowler did with her letters from Fowler descendants in Annals of the Fowler family. Only we have the benefit of se! arch capabilites. Also, the message boards at my site give "registered users" the ability to "watch their message" for responses. Unlike a mail list, you will receive email only when someone responds to your post. So please register before posting to the boards there. I will also take any requests to post anyone's data on any area of my site as long as they provide source information. For example, military service, deeds, wills, census, marriage, births, deaths, photos, etc in text or image format. This would be great for those of us researching common ancestors to have access to data and images not otherwise available to us. My own Fowler photos only date back to 1918 but I know there has to be someone out there in cyberspace with older ones. My personal difficulty is that my great-great grandfather was killed when my great grandfather was only 4 years old so the tie was for the most part severed. Individuals can submit their data/images to me through email either in-line or as attachments. As far as gedcom files, I would rather have individuals send a link to their own site, rootsweb or otherwise and I will dedicate a page on the site for that purpose. Please include a brief description to be included with the link. For example, "Godfrey Fowler born 1670 Henrico Co., VA to Godfrey Butler Fowler b. 1840 Union Co., SC" or by Geographic location such as "Fowlers from SC>AL>GA>TX". This way if someone knows their Texas Fowlers came from Georgia, they can check the link for common ancestors without sorting through tons of other fruitless trees. (Like the pun? haha) I will also post a top five most wanted list on the front page of my site for anyone . For example, a researcher has made a possible connection but has questions concerning the connection, they Email me a "Five Most wanted" list that, when answered, will solidify or disprove the possible connection. So, to sum it all up. If someone would like to post a quick blurb about what line they are researching, use the Fowler Family message board at http://mrfowler.com/fowlerfamily Registering on the message board system allows you to watch your posts for responses and also allows me to do a mass email to notify people of updates and additions. To submit links, biographies, data or images for inclusion on other pages in the site email me at mrfowler@mrfowler.com. The more people contribute, the more valuable it will become. If anyone has any technical problems with the boards or site in general please notify me. I hope this helps. Kirk
