    3. Ruby, Your email intrigues me. At first I might have suggested that the Mary Ann Fowler was daughter to David Fowler and Rachel Crenshaw. >David Fowler and his wife came from Wake County, North Carolina, and >settled in Hardeman County, Tennessee, near the hamlet or village of >Whiteville, about 1830 or '31, where they both died soon afterward and >were buried near their home." However, their daughter, Mary Ann Fowler was born July 01, 1798 and married Henry William Brown about 1832 in Hardeman Co, TN. Also, the oldest son of David would have only been about 12 years old in 1815 and I think as a male a little young to be fathering a child. However, I believe his oldest son, Joseph was really born in 1796-7 and his daughter Mary Ann was born about 1817 in AL. Joseph and Lucy Amanda lived in Hardeman Co, TN during the early 1820s however their Mary Ann married Calvin Gage by 1834 and they were all living in Greene Co, AR before they moved to Fannin Co, TX by 1851 and on to Jack Co, TX by 1860. The reason it intrigues me is that my Fowlers were in Hardeman in the 1820s and early 30s, as well as nearby McNairy Co, TN and my line also was in Tarrant Co, TX. There are missing children. Here is a short summary. Hiram and Dicy Hendrix Fowler were in Spartanburg Co, SC in 1820 (Dicy was listed as head of household) while Hiram was off to find next location and Dicy was pregnant. Their oldest daughter, Nancy Ann Fowler was born in 1804 S. C. and Joseph "Solomon" Fowler (my line) was born in 1806 S.C. Miles was born in 1820 in SC and then they moved to Alabama prior to 1824 when their youngest son, John Sevier Clark Fowler was born. There is a lot of space in between for other children. Nancy Ann married Thomas Pearson about 1820 in Spartanburg. Thomas had land there but they moved to Hardeman Co, TN afterward. Nancy lost her children to "fever" and then her husband came down with the measles but went out working his crop. He died August 1829. Nancy was pregnant with their last child and he was born a few days after his father died; Ira James Lee Pearson. Nancy moved in with her grandparents, William & Mrs Hendrix and was there during the 1830 census. She married a second time in Hardeman Co, TN to William Thomas in Dec 1831. William Thomas went back to Spartanburg Co, SC in Dec 1837 to arrange for the sale of Thomas Pearson's land based on his will that it go to Nancy and her unborn child. Hiram died sometimes before 1850. Miles married abt 1846 and Dicy moved to live with them in Henderson County, TN...later part of Chester Co, TN near McNairy and Hardeman counties. Nancy and William also move there with their family. Nancy died there about 1857. John "Sevier" Clark Fowler married Catherine Inman and moved to Madison Co, AR about 1847. He stayed there and raised a large family. My line, Joseph " Solomon" Fowler and Elizabeth R Lowry/Lowery moved to Pope Co, AR around 1845. Their oldest daughter, Marinda Jane married Tyrell Wood about 1847, my ggrandfather, John Madison, and Bennett Webb Fowler were born there and their daughter, Martha died. Elizabeth's sister, Matilda Lowry and her husband Bennett Musgrove Burleson had moved first from McNairy Co, TN to Coosa Co, AL then to Fannin Co, TX by 1851 and Solomon and Elizabeth with their children moved in 1851 near Azle, Tarrant Co, TX at the fork of Walnut Creek and the Trinity River. [now at the bottom and the middle of Eagle Mountain Lake.] Their last child Marion Park Fowler was born here and two daughters, Teresa Louvina married Joseph Shelley about 1858 in Tarrant Co and Mary Elizabeth married William F. Hays in Cook Co, TX in 1862. They endured Indian raids while they had improved their land, surveyed it and paid taxes. The Civil War broke out and Solomon was totally against slavery and against cessation and then the pro-slavery courts tookt their land away about the summer of 1862. Apparently most of his brothers and sisters were pulled into the CSA causing a rift between the families. Wm Hays w/Mary Elizabeth, Joe Shelley, and the younger sons, John Madison, Bennett Webb, & Marion Park drove their cattle and horses north to Indian Territory where they leased land from the Cherokee for grazing near the Kansas border. Joe Shelley was killed by CSA or Indians while herding their livestock north. John Madison and William Calvin (Solomon and Elizabeth's oldest son) joined the Union Army in Kansas. After the war in 1865, John Madison married Catherine Kinnamon in Greenwood Co, KS and settled there. By 1870 (census)Teresa with her two children had moved to McDonald Co, MO and she had remarried Wm Calvin Dobbs and had a small son. Also, that is where Marinda "Jane" and her children were located. Jane's daughter Siotha "Tennessee" Wood had just married Wm Austin Roark there. Also, in McDonald Co, MO in 1870 was William Calvin Fowler. He had just married Lucinda Fields and they had a small son. Then Teresa and her family; Jane and her family, William & his family joined Solomon and Elizabeth and their sister, Mary Elizabeth and her family , and their younger brothers, Bennett Webb and Marion "Park", in Indian Territory. All the families moved north to Chautauqua Co, KS on the Indian Territory border about 1875. The family lived there until Solomon died and is buried there in 1888. John Madison's first wife died and he remarried Effie Ellen Smith (my ggrandmother) in 1889. In 1891, the family moved back to Oklahoma Territory when the government opened some land for settlement. Teresa divorced claimed land as did Jane and some of her children, Bennett, Park, John also moved his mother, Elizabeth Lowry Fowler with him to what is now Tryon, Lincoln Co, OK. She died in 1892. I'm sure I've left out large chunks but I wanted to give you more of a summary and then if you are interested, I can send you an rft ( Word-rich text file) that has more detail with names, places, and dates. All of this to say that I'm wondering if your Mary Ann Fowler might be a sister to Nancy Ann, Solomon, Miles, and Sevier Fowler. She was there during the same period and her family also moved to Tarrant Co, TX. I have to go back and relook at my data for that area and look for Wm E. Walker. I would like to share more information with you.
