I am actively making update 1 _MILT 2 PLAC Fought in War for Independence William Fowler possibly came to USA in 1775 or 1776. might have travelled with his brother John. lived in Hagerstown, MD then Baltimore. According to the records at the National Archives and Records Administration, he Served as a Private in the 2 Maryland Regt in Revolutionary War. An undated record shows he was delivered 1 shirt, 1 pair of shoes, and 1 pair of stockings. The first dated record is 11/1/1777 to 11/3/1777, it indicates a term of enlistment of 3 years. William Fowler served in the 2nd Maryland Regt , Capt Eli Dorsey's Co, commanded by Col Thomas Woolford. William Fowler was involved in the defense of Fort Mifflin, near Philadelphia. The British under command of General William Howe besieged the fort from November 10th till the fort fell on November 16th 1777. The British force lost 13 killed and 24 wounded. The American force numbered 450 men commanded by Colonel Samuel Smith. Of the 450, 250 were killed or wounded in the battle. One of the wounded was William Fowler. William was transported to an Army hospital where he was kept for several months. The next entry is dated 1/1/1778-1/3/1778, same commander and officer, the entry is "Sick Hosp". In the next entry, William Fowler is now in Lieut. Benjamin Price's Co of the 2nd Maryland Regt, still under Col Thomas Woolford. 2/1/1778-2/4/1778 "sick in Hospital" The next entry is from Feb 1778- March 18, 1778 still in Price's unit, "Hospital from Fort Mifflin". The final entry obtained indicates William was kept till 4/3/1778 in the hospital due to his wounds from Fort Mifflin. After the war he moved to Washington Co, Ky, where it appears he died sometime after 1817.
