Hi,....this is for [email protected] who is not currently at this address. All I have is that I have a Fowler that I cannot identify that lived in Union Co., NC and later Mecklenburg (Charlotte). Most of the Fowler's have been from upper SC. As for the Hays, I also have one Hays but have not done any research on them. They are Mecklenburg Co., NC also. Not much help I know, but maybe a clue. Joy
I turned nostalgic at Christmas, and exploring a passed-on family cookbook, created some of the recipes my mother (nee Virginia Fowler), and probably her mother and grandmother, made. Her applesauce fruit cake was a winner. Their yeast rolls were made with cakes of yeast from a bakery, but adapt to the dry kind o.k. The 'depression cake' is highly nutritious, and relatively easy to bake. "Cousin Cora Law's" vegetable casserole may have frozen vegetables instead of fresh, and it is still good. My family had two Christmas observances (his and hers) and I cooked for both. If anyone collects family recipes and wants a copy of any of these or others from time past, just let me know. Kay

Hi Margaret and Gladys: I took my own advice and found that there are quite a few FOWLERS in the Q-R archives. My John Fowler is not the same as your John Fowler. There is also an interesting story about Captain Robert Fowler. Here is what I have: In Belmont County 1850 census in Pease Twp., OH John Fowler, 32, OH Mary, 26, OH Mary, 6, OH William, 4, OH Angeline, 1, OH Syntha Anderson 16, MD In Belmont County, 1860 census in Pultney Twp. John Fowler, 41, VA, occ. Miller, b 1819 Phoeba J. Fowler, 36, OH (1824-1886), d. at 42 yrs old, Bridgeport (or Weeks) Cemetery Mary J. Fowler, 16 OH, b. 1844 William L. Fowler, 14, OH, b. 1846 Angeline Fowler, 11, OH, b. 1849 Albert O. Fowler, 6, OH, b.1854 John R. Fowler, 4, OH, b. 1856 There were also Fowlers living in Harrison County Ohio. There are land patents for John Fowler 1826, 1830, 1831 which I will send for. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/asp/queryOH.asp Also, will be ordering films for records of QUAKER Meetings available on microfilm at Bowling Green State Univ. Also, looking for Duttons (primary line). http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/cac/ms0492.html Carole - -------------------------- Margarett Demick wrote: > > Hi, I find your question of interest but afraid I will be no help. I am new to the Fowler list so this may have been asked before. Is there anyone on the list who is connected to Patti Page's Fowler line or know if there is any information on her family line? It has been rumored in our family for years that we were connected. I would like to prove or disprove. We have a missing "Bill" Fowler that could be her father alright. I am skeptical. Thank you for any help. Linda Fowler Crawford
Hi Gladys, I am also not having luck with my Fowler's in Harrison Co., Ohio, supposedly moved from Virginia. My grandfather married Minnie DeValut, a daughter of Mary Jane Fowler and Jesse DeVault. The DeVault's and the Duttons were Quakers, so, maybe the Fowler's were Quakers, too. Maybe, you can ask the folks at Quaker-Roots-L to do a lookup in Hinshaw's to see if your Fowlers are in there; although, I am told that Hinshaw died before he could do all the Quakers. Also, I have been told that the Quakers tended to move around together. I found this in the Q-R archives, "Micajah Bailey and their families migrated to be followed soon by many others. Practically every male emigrant before he left Virginia had suffered persecution from fines and seizures, showing the immediate source of pressure that drove these men and women westward. The persecutions during and following the War of 1812 only served to hasten the exodus. By 1832 Quakerism had almost vanished from Southside Virginia." There is Hinshaw's Encyclopedia. There is the Quaker-Roots mail list archives. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=QUAKER-ROOTS and you can post questions on the LIST itself. I am searching for John Fowler, born Virginia, abt 1818-19, removed to Belmont County, Ohio, and listed on 1850 and 1860 census. Married Mary or Phoeba J. Carole
Thought I'd repost my info in hopes that someone new might have more information. I'm looking for Elexious FOWLER who married Rachel SILVER(S) about 18 Aug 1774, possibly in Frederick CO, MD. He served in the American Revolution, marching out of Frederick Co, MD. After the Revolution, Elexious moved to Kentucky, living in Washington, Marion, and Nelson Counties. He died 27th August 1833 & is buried at St. Rose Church near Springfield, KY. His wife Rachel SILVER(S) claimed to have been 79 in 1837, making her born about 1758 if my math is correct. She died around 1842 and is also buried at St. Rose Church near Springfield, KY. Rachel, blind in her old age, applied for a suvivor's pension based on Elexious's military service & later son James did also, but I believe both were denied. Rachel's father MIGHT have been named John. They had 11 children that I know of: Charity (my ancestor - married Thomas Milburn in 1812) b: 1790 in KY, d: 1837 Lydia (married 1. Andrew Harbison 2. _____ Gar) Susanna (m: Arthur Harbison) Elizabeth (m: ____ Kimberland) Mary (m: John Milburn, brother of Charity's husband Thomas) b: 1782 in PA Samuel Ann (m: ______ Moore) Rachel (m: ____Chambers) Sarah (m: _____Burns) James Nancy Would love to hear from anyone with more information on the FOWLERS and/or SILVERS.
