    1. [FOWLER] Re: [RC] Blake cemetery/Heflin and Fowlers
    2. Lee... Thanks for your reply. I'm not familiar with Blake, AL, but I'm sure I have ties there. One of my ancestors was named Wyatt Heflin Blake. The Blakes were among the earliest settlers of Randolph County (early 1830s) and Thomas and his son operated Blake's Ferry (originally Triplett's Ferry) on the Tallapoosa west of Wedowee for many years. The Blake family came from Isle of Wight Virginia, to Wake Co., NC, to Jackson Co., GA, to Hall Co. to Carroll Co. and on to Randolph Co., AL where most of them stayed. Of course, Cleburne County didn't exist then. My grandmother was Lula Gadsy Blake, daughter of Isaac Blake and Mattie Dorman; Isaac was the son of Thomas and Delaney Young Blake. She married Luther Clarence Fowler, the son of Wiliam Jethroe Fowler of Hightower, AL. I know the Blakes are buried in or near Heflin and there is supposed to be an old Blake homeplace there. I just don't know exactly where. Maybe someone at the Cleburne County courthouse will know. I have a lot of information on the Blakes...I just want some photos and to see things for myself. The Fowlers are my main reason for going. It will be an interesting trip. Thanks again...we're probably related somewhere down the line. Most of the folks in that area are! 2. I'm planning a trip to Cleburne County, particularly Ranburne/Heflin area within the next couple of weeks to try and find some info on my Fowlers. I would also like to visit the Blake cemetery which is supposed to be in or near Heflin. Most of my Blake relatives are buried there (Thomas Blake, Delaney Young Blake, etc.). Does anyone know exactly where it is? Need directions if at all possible. Is there anything I can do for anyone while I'm there? Will do what time allows. Primary reason for visit is to try and find info on William Jethroe Fowler (1849-1919) of Hightower, buried in Baptist church cemetery in downtown Ranburne. Have no idea who is parents were or where they came from. Definitely plan to take photos of tombstones if I can find the Blake cemetery. Email to [email protected] (Sending this to 3 lists...several of you may get it more than once...sorry) Judy Fowler Kilgore Newnan, GA

    3. I had this letter returned to me with words "permanent fatal errors" and am thus posting it to the list in hope that Margaret is maybe still on the list with a different e-mail or that someone else might be working on the same Fowler line, thanks, Leah in Texas Hi, Margaret in Washington I am writing in response to your posts below. I sure hope we connect; My maternal great-grand mother was a Rachel Fowler from the Dayton Ohio area, I have 1822 as her birth date but it is not well documented. She married married William Caruthers on the 6 Jul 1839 in Ft. Madison, Lee, Iowa and died in Claytonville, Brown, Kansas 19 Dec 1887. I am sure of the marriage information from court house records, and death date from tombstone. The best I can determine from census records is that they moved to Kansas some where around 1850. Mom's dad, James Caruthers, was a twin to John Caruthers and they were born in Brown county Kansas --His (James) death records say 1865, however John's tombstone in Kansas gives birth as 1855 and census records seem to agree with Johns stone. I have not been able to find Rachel's parents and am hoping that we may be working the same line (from Ohio- Iowa looks good). Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.
