    1. Re: [FOWLER] John and Elizabeth Dorsey Fowlers children
    2. Duane, As you can see, none of my family names even come close to yours, so I don't think we have a connection. However, this is the first Fowler family from Tennessee which has even shown any promise, so I'm going to keep this info for the future. One of the early researchers seemed to think that our Nathan had a brother named James who was living next to him in 1840, so perhaps there may be a family tie somewhere. I appreciate your taking the time to send me the information. Many thanks, Judy

    1. Re: [FOWLER] John Fowler and Elizabeth Dorsey and James Madison Fowler and Sarah McHaney
    2. Duane, Do you have the children of your John Fowler and Elizabeth Dorsey of Tennessee? Or any information on his siblings or parents? Our Nathan named his first son "John," which was also the name of his wife's father. So we don't know which side the name may have come from. Nathan said he was born in Tennessee about 1800 (1850 census, Gwinnett Co., GA). Nathan's children (all born in GA) were: Hester Fowler, b. 1824 (named after his wife's mother, Hester Whaley Pepper(s) John Fowler, b. abt 1826 Reuben Fowler, b. abt 1827 Sarah Fowler, b. abt 1829 Kelly Fowler, b. abt 1831 (named after his wife's brother, Kelly Pepper(s) Zephaniah Fowler, b. abt 1833 Matilda Fowler, b. abt 1837 Elizabeth Fowler, b . abt 1838 (possibly named after Nathan's wife) Marion Fowler (male ... b. abt 1838) Martha Ann Fowler, b. abt 1839 These known children are proved with the 1850 census and probate court records from Walton County, GA (1867-1871) when Nathan's living children (or their spouses in the case of those children who had died) were named as heirs of John and Hester Whaley Pepper(s), parents of Elizabeth Pepper(s) Fowler. Grasping at straws ... Many thanks for any info, Judy Fowler Kilgore Newnan, GA

    1. [FOWLER] John Fowler and Elizabeth Dorsey and James Madison Fowler and Sarah McHaney
    2. D McKenzie
    3. Hello to All, I am looking for any information on John Fowler born on April 30, 1766 in Washington co. Va. or North Carolina who married Elizabeth Dorsey, John Fowler died on March 9, 1845 in Knox co. Tenn. Elizabeth Dorsey died there on May 29, 1855 and both are buried in the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Knoxville, Tenn. I descend from their son James Madison Fowler born on January 30, 1811 possibly in Tennessee and he married Sarah McHaney and he died on October 29, 1874 in Union Grove Township, near Pittsburg in Williamson co.Ill. Sarah McHaney was born around 1810 in Pittsylvania co. Va. or Trigg co.Ky. a daughter of Richard H. McHaney and Mariah or Geriah Davis who were married in Pittsylvania co. Va. on December 25, 1809. Sarah McHaney Fowler died in Williamson co. Ill. near Pittsburg, Ill. on December 1885. Any information on these people and this family I would appreciate hearing from very much. Thank you. Duane McKenzie. mailto:dmckenze@hutchtel.net

    1. Re: [FOWLER] Fowler, Williams, Osley, Butler, Vernon, Clarke co., GA
    2. Jim, So sorry. My Fowlers were already in Georgia by the very early 1800s. Nathan Fowler appears first in the 1840 census of Gwinnett County, then again in 1850. He served on juries there in the 1830s. He died before 1860, so the 1850 census was the only one he was enumerated in with any detail. He was born about 1800, supposedly in Tennessee. We question whether that might have been a part of Tennessee that was once North Carolina, but we really have no idea. Nathan is our brick wall. I have all his children proved, and many of their descendants. I am still trying to develop some of the families. Thus, the query about Kelly and Sarah Fowler. There were several Fowlers in Gwinnett County the same time as Nathan and we are almost certain most of them are related. But, without parents or siblings, it has been an impossible task to connect anyone. There was another, much older, Nathan Fowler in the same area, with children of similar names. He had a son named Zephaniah and so did our Nathan. But attempts to connect to him have met with dead ends also. My family tree is online at Rootsweb and Ancestry if you'd like to take a look, but I'm afraid your Fowlers in North Carolina were there many years later than mine came to Georgia. Here's the link: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=judyk&I11.x=44&I11.y=6 Good luck in your search. Judy

    1. Re: [FOWLER] Fowler, Williams, Osley, Butler, Vernon, Clarke co., GA
    2. Judy, I saw the message you had on the computer about the Fowlers. I didn't reconigized any name that was on there. My Grandfather was named Clyde Sexton Fowler and he was from Johnston County, North Carolina. His wife's name has been listed as either Nora or Kara. I knew her a Nora. Her maiden name was Batten. Clyde's father was James H. Fowler and he was married to Almira H. He was 74 years old in 1910. As far as I know they were all from Johnston County, North Carolina. Does any of this ring a bell with you? I've been fishing with this lineage for a long time and always a dead end. Please help if you can. Thank you, Jim Hinton

    1. [FOWLER] Fowler, Williams, Osley, Butler, Vernon, Clarke co., GA
    2. Seeking descendants, relatives, cousins, info, whatever, on children of Kelly Fowler and Sarah Perry, married 14 Sept 1853 in Gwinnett Co., GA. Kelly was the son of Nathan Fowler and Elizabeth Pepper of Gwinnett County. He was killed in Montgomery, AL 8 May 1863 while on courier duty (Civil War). Sarah farmed the girls out to other families in Gwinnett (Chandler, Hutchins, Gossett) by 1870 and took them to Clarke County by 1880 where they all appear to be working in the mill. 1880 Clarke County, GA census, Dist. 16, Puryears, #? ...Fowler, Sarah, self, WF, 49, keeping house, SC, SC, SC, ...Fowler, S.S., dau, WF, 20, works in cotton mill, GA, GA, SC ...Fowler, Nancy, dau, WF, 20, works in cotton mill, GA, GA, SC ...Vernon, Lizzie, dau, WF, 23, works in cotton mill, GA, GA, SC ...Fowler, Mary, dau, WF, 18, works in cotton mill, GA, GA, SC Elizabeth Fowler, (b. abt 1856) married Unknown Vernon, location unknown. Possibly married in Gwinnett. Children unknown. No further info. Samantha Fowler (b. Aug. 1859), married Benjamin P. Williams 23 Aug 1882 in Clarke County. They are found in 1900 in Oconee County, married 19 years, had no children. No further information. Nancy Fowler, also b. 1859 (may be twin to Samantha) married John Osley (b. abt 1856) 18 May 1884 in Clarke County. There is a Nancy Osley buried at Princeton UMC Cemetery, Athens, b. 29 May 1863, d. 11 Nov 1915, which may be her, but birth date is off about 4 years. Not unusual when survivors give info for gravestone. A John Osley, age 64, is found in Harrison, Madison County, GA, in 1920 with a wife, Ida, age 55. He was married first at age 18 and she at 30, so this apparently is a second wife. Think this may be the same John Osley married first to Nancy Fowler. Children unknown. Mary Fowler (b. 1862) married Matthias Boley Davis Butler 6 March 1884 in Clarke County. She died in 1898, supposedly in Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA. Matthias moved to Salt Lake City where he is found in 1900, a widower. They had two known daughters, Delila Ada and Maggie Lee Melissa. Both moved to Salt Lake. Thanks to Sharlene Nicolaides of Salt Lake for a lot of the above information. She is descended from Kelly's daughter, Mary Fowler Butler. I am descended from Kelly Fowler's brother, John Fowler, and his wife, Sarah Ann Norris, who moved from Gwinnett to Campbell County in the 1860s. John died sometime after 1873 and Sarah Ann moved to Cleburne County, Alabama with all her children. Will take anything I can get, share anything I have on the Fowlers and related lines. Kelly's line has been particularly frustrating. Many thanks in advance, Judy Fowler Kilgore Newnan, GA

    1. Alexander FOWLER + Alemeda McGOWAN
    2. John McGowan
    3. Folks, Another dilema: in 1882 estate division of her bachelor Uncle Henry McGOWAN in Hyde Co., NC, Alemeda McGOWAN (b.1855), daughter of Wiley & Tabitha (Norris) McGOWAN of Saline Co., IL, she is listed as Alemeda FOWLER. In Illinois records I have found the following: Alexander FOWLER m. Mrs. Almeda WILKINS on Jan. 11, 1881 in Gallatin Co., IL. Also, her sister Rachel McGOWAN was married at the home of Alexander FOWLER. In the 1880 Census of Whitle Co., IL I found them listed twice: -------------------------------------------------- White Co., IL - Indian Creek p.413D Alexender Fowler 36 head Laborer IL/AL/TN Almada " 24 wife IL/TN/TN George F. Fowler 13 brother IL/AL/TN Samuel Wilkins 2 son IL/IL/IL -------------------------------------------------- White Co., IL - Indian Creek p.421D Alixander Fowler 35 head Laborer IL/TN/TN Almada " 25 wife IL/TN/TN George F. " 12 son IL/IL/IL Samuel W. " 3 son IL/IL/IL -------------------------------------------------- So, either the above marriage date is incorrect of Alexander and Alemeda lived together before they were married. Any information on Alexander FOWLER, b.c.1844 in Illinois, or the McGOWANS of Saline & White Co., IL, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John McGowan mailto:jmack@carolina.net

    1. FOWLER FAMILY OF SOMERSET AND DORSET
    2. Peter Ferreira
    3. Greetings from Canada. I am descended from the Fowlers of Somerset and Dorset, England, and would be delighted to communicate and share information with any near or distant cousins, sharing some or all of this Fowler ancestral line. All within Somerset and Dorset, England, my Fowler ancestry is as follows: 1. Joseph Fowler senior (1787 - 1855), born in Cudworth, who married Mary Gapper (1781 - 1861) of Winsham, Somerset; Joseph was a yeoman of Abbotsbury and Winterborne Whitechurch, Dorset; their children were baptized in Winsham, Somerset, and W.W. I would appreciate help identifying the ancestry of my Robert Fowler senior. Peter Ferreira, from Toronto, Canada

    1. FOWLERS in KY 1815, 1818>in Osage/Gasconade Co. MO 1843
    2. I am searching for any information on 2 Fowler men who were in the Osage/Gasconade Co. MO area in 1843 where ROBERT FOWLER signed a deed over to JOHN C. FOWLER & JACKSON H. FOWLER. Was this the same Robert Fowler who was the first constable of Clark Twp when Gasconade Co. MO was formed about 1819 (from Goodspeed's History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford & Gasconade Counties, MO, page 625 telling about first day the county court was in session)? I understand Clark Twp. no longer exists. How was Robert Fowler connected to John C. and Jackson H. Fowler? I know that Jackson H. Fowler was b. @1815 (from 1860 Osage Co. MO Census) in KY. I do not know who his FIRST wife was or when or where he married her but his 2nd wife was Josephine Goellner and he married her in Osage Co. MO May 1855. Jackson H. Fowler had the following children: Thomas Fowler b. @1847 MO "Wash" aka George Washington Fowler b. @1849 Henry Fowler b. @1856 John Theodore Fowler b. May 30, 1863 Charles George Fowler b. May 11, 1866 I assume they were all born in MO. Jackson Fowler died June 24, 1866 & is bu. at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Osage Co. MO. I have only seen Jackson H. Fowler on the 1860 Osage Co. Census but I never located him in 1850. I descend from JOHN C. FOWLER b. @1818 KY (I don't know where in KY or who parents were). John C. Fowler married Olivia HEATH (b. @1824 IN or KY) Jan. 1843, in Gasconade Co. MO. This couple would move around like they were grasshoppers for almost the rest of their lives, finally settling in Searcy Co. AR where he died about 1889. They had the following children that I know about: 1. Ellen Fowler b. @1840 MO 2. D. William Fowler b. @1845 MO (his first name may have been David after Olivia's Father, David Heath, but I do NOT KNOW that). He is my ancestor. 3. Isabella Fowler b. @1850 MO 4. Mary "Mollie" Ann Fowler b. @1855, McKinny, Collin Co., TX. 5. Martha "Olivia" Fowler b. @1862-1868, Dallas, Dallas Co., TX The John C. & Olivia Heath Fowler were on the following Census records: 1850 Saline Co., Distr. 90,. MO with 1st three children 1860 Denton Co., Stewart Creek, TX with 1st four children 1870 Newton Co., Granby Twp., MO with last two children. 1880 Searcy Co. Bear Creek, Twp., AR with youngest child. 1. Ellen Fowler married Cornelius Lewis (b. @1835 Ireland per Dallas Co. 1860 Census when he was living in home of R. R. Fletcher working as a laborer). They married Mar. 14, 1861, Collin Co. TX and I never located either of them again, not on a census or in a cemetery. I don't know if he died in the Civil War or if she died in childbirth or what became of them after 1861. 2. D. William Fowler shows on the 1860 Census in Denton Co., Stewart Creek Twp with his parents and I lose him until 1877 when he signs a Furnishing Agreement in Searcy Co. AR. Then he marries Cassandra Minerva Jane Enterprise Goodman Sep. 1878 in Van Buren Co. AR and they have one son, John Henry Fowler Jan. 6, 1880 in Searcy Co., AR. D. William Fowler is dead by 1884 when Cass married Laborn Stafford. I have never located D. William Fowler on the 1870 or 1880 Census in TX, AR, or MO. I heard he was in the Army in the Civil War but I have not located him that I know about. 3. Isabella Fowler was last seen on the 1860 Denton Co., Stewart Creek Twp. TX Census with her parents. I never located a marriage lic. or a headstone for her. She was not with her family in 1870 in Newton Co. MO. I would LOVE to locate her getting married somewhere. 4. I will list Martha "Olivia" Fowler before Mary Ann to avoid confusion. Olivia married Francis M. Matchett in Searcy Co. AR Sep. 9, 1883 Searcy Co. AR. Her age varies on almost every census, even her place of birth varies but her death cert. says she was born in Dallas, TX and I think it is prob. true because one of her sons is named Dallas. She and her husband had 3 sons: John C. Matchett b. June 1885 AR Joseph W. Matchett b. Oct. 1889 AR Dallas Clarence Matchett b. Jul 1899 Olivia lived out her life in AR. 5. I saved the 4th child, Mary "Mollie" Ann Fowler b. 1855, McKinny, Collin Co. TX until last because she was the most married as far as I know: A. she married Robert Meek and had a son, William Francis Meek(s) @1874. Robert abandoned them. B. She married James Clark Thomas Jan. 1879 Searcy Co. AR. & had 2 children, James Clark Thomas and Fannie Beatrice Thomas. There were others that died young. James Clark died 1886. C. She married Henry Britton in 1889 Conway Co. AR. I HEARD that he did not like her children and they were divorced. I do not know where or when they were divorced. D. She is shown married to a Mr. Tucker on the 1910 Ada, Pontotoc Co., OK Census and shows as married 3 years but he is not on the Census with her and I do not know his first name. She is shown hoh running a hotel where her daughter, Fannie Beatrice Thomas (1) Archer (2) Talley lives along with Fannie's husband William Talley and son William Emory Archer, 5 (whose father had died). It could be that Mary was there when the census taker was there but lived off the premises and I do not know Mr. Tuckers first name. E. Mary Ann married Henry Ha in 1931, Okla. City, OK and would live with him the rest of her life in the Oklahoma City area, OK where she would die Mar. 29, 1938. Mary Ann had a daughter, Ethel born about 1892 AR but I do not know if she was child of Henry Britton or Mr. Tucker because she was not on the census with Mary Ann Tucker in 1910 and on the 1920 Census Ethel is shown as Ethel Voss, a widow, 28 years old. I do not know when or where she had married Mr. Voss or Mr. Freeman and I don't know their first names. Mary Ann is shown as a widow, Mary Ann Tucker, 64, on the 1920 Maud, Pottawatomie Co., OK Census raising the son of her dead child (Fannie) William Emory Archer. William Talley had taken Fannie Beatrice's daughter by him, Fern Talley b. 1911, and moved on. Any help on this wandering family of John C. Moore or the family of Jackson H. Fowler would really be appreciated. Charlene
